Kyle Sandilands reveals the truth about his ‘feud’ with Australian Idol judge Harry Connick Jr.

EXCLUSIVE: The truth behind my feud with Harry Connick Jr.: Kyle Sandilands reveals what he really thinks about fellow Australian Idol judge and why he was destined to clash with the American heartthrob

Kyle Sandilands has revealed what he really thinks about fellow Australian Idol Judge Harry Connick Jr. as their on-screen bickering continues to make headlines.

While their rivalry has caused plenty of tension, Kyle, 51, says he has nothing but ‘respect’ for the American hitmaker, 55.

‘People keep saying it’s some kind of “feud”, but it’s not a feud. Harry is Harry. He’s nice, he’s a muso… he’s an artist, with all the flowery bulls**t that comes with being an artist,’ Kyle told Daily Mail Australia this week.

‘It’s fun to have a little bit of controversy on [the show],’ he added with a smile.

Kyle explained the two men were always going to clash because of their differing views on what kind of advice should be given to the contestants.

While Kyle worked in commercial radio for decades and believes aspiring popstars should focus on delivering non-stop hits, Harry believes artistic expression is paramount to a successful career.

‘He’s very nice. We just have different opinions on what is important. But I’m still very respectful of him, and he’s very respectful of me,’ Kyle explained.

‘There’s no snarling at each other in the background. I wouldn’t put up with that.’

'People keep saying it's some kind of 'feud', but it's not a feud. Harry is Harry. He's nice, he's a muso... he's an artist, with all the flowery bulls**t that comes with being an artist,' Kyle told Daily Mail Australia this week

He also noted that ‘extremely polite’ Harry had a shock when he first met Kyle, who is known for his acid tongue and no-holds-barred attitude.

‘When he first got to Australia, he was like, ‘Holy f**k, who is this guy telling kids, ‘You suck, get out!’? That was probably very confronting for him, because he’s soft and nice,’ he explained.

Elsewhere, Kyle shared some brutal advice to the young singers competing on Australian Idol this year.

‘[The contestants] think that’s the hard bit, winning. It’s not, it’s every record you put out, you’re only as good as your last song,’ he warned.

‘So, you put three [bad] songs out in a row and you’re dead, it’s over for you. You have to start again and convince everybody you’re worth investing in. That’s the hard part.’

The winner of Australian Idol will receive $100,000 in cash and a recording deal with Sony Music.
