Why Matt Shirvington is getting paid a lot less to host Sunrise than David Koch after athlete’s surprise salary was leaked
Kyle Sandilands revealed on Tuesday he does not believe new Sunrise host Matt Shirvington should be earning the same amount as veteran presenter David Koch.
The radio king, 51, was discussing the salaries of TV and radio presenters on The Kyle and Jackie O Show when he made the bombshell salary claim.
‘I once went into our CEO’s office and said we want $1million a year like The Morning Crew. The guy laughed in my face,’ he told co-host Jackie O.
‘He said they had worked here for ten years and got great ratings and we were not getting a million unless we got the same ratings.’
Kyle then said he made a deal that he and Jackie O would get paid a million dollar salary if they got the same ratings as the morning crew – and the CEO agreed to it.

‘And two months later they had to pay it,’ he said.
He added that new presenters, such as Matt Shirvington, need to prove they can attract a huge audience before making large salary demands.
It comes after Kyle and Jackie O hit the top of the radio ratings with a massive audience share of 17.9 per cent in the latest survey.

According to the figures, released on Tuesday, the duo averaged a whopping 921,000 fans a week, the highest number in the history of their program.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed last week that Shirvo would be replacing David ‘Kochie’ Koch on Sunrise, after a three-year plan to prepare him for the top job.
Shirvo said he was feeling ‘mixed emotions’ about the new gig as he joined Barr and Kochie on the couch for the announcement.
He added that new presenters, such as Matt Shirvington, need to prove they can attract a huge audience before making large salary demands
‘Just amazing. Daunted. So excited. Happy. Cannot tell you the honour and privilege this is, Kochie, particularly. A huge and exciting job,’ he said.
Both Kochie and Barr said they were thrilled with the choice.
Shirvo will co-host his first edition of Sunrise with Natalie next Monday, 12 June.
