Kylie Minogue admits that people often forget that she’s Australian

Kylie Minogue admits that people often forget that she’s Australian… but admits that she has no plans to move back Down Under any time soon

She’s the homegrown superstar who shot to fame in the 1980s as Charlene Robinson on the Australian soap Neighbour.

But despite being born and raised in Melbourne, Kylie Minogue has admitted that people forget that she’s Australian because of her many decades living in Europe.

‘I have a British passport and an Australian passport. I think some people forget I’m Australian,’ she recently told the Table Manners podcast.

However, the 52-year-old has no plans to relocate back Down Under any time soon due to her relationship with boyfriend Paul Solomons.

‘[Paul’s] a Welshman. But he’s been in London for almost 20 years. There’s just not going to be an Australian home,’ she explained.

Kylie has lived mainly in London since the 1990s. She also spent time living in Paris in the mid-2000s while she was dating French actor Olivier Martinez.

Last year, Kylie was named the face of Tourism Australia’s $15million ad campaign.

In May, the In Your Eyes hitmaker revealed her hotly anticipated LP Disco is to feature a set of ‘grown-up disco’ tracks.

She said: ‘[It’s] difficult even for me to explain. But even grown-ups need some pure pop fun.’

Disco is making a comeback with artists like Doja Cat and Dua Lipa channelling the genre on their recent hits Say So and Don’t Start Now respectively.

The Spinning Around hitmaker said of the trend: ‘It’s all cyclical, right? I loved disco. There’s a lot of early 2000s love around at the moment.

‘Both feel like good times for me, so I’m channelling that into this record,’ she added.

Kylie famously embraced disco during the early 2000s, where she released such iconic tracks as Spinning Around – and wore her infamous gold short-shorts.

Her newest single, Magic, is out right now. Disco drops on November 6.

The album was largely recorded during the coronavirus lockdown, with Kylie recording her own vocals at home and working with a producer via Zoom.
