Kym Marsh, 41, breaks her silence after split from ex Matt Baker, 27, as she reflects on separation

Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has reflected on her painful split with boyfriend Matt Baker for the first time, days after confirming their relationship is over.

A spokesperson for the 41-year old actress announced her separation from fitness instructor Baker, 27, on Friday after more than two-years together.

But speaking to the latest issue of OK!, mother of three Kym insists the decision to end their relationship was completely amicable and they will remain in regular contact, despite no longer being together.

Opening up: Coronation Street star Kym Marsh has reflected on her painful split with boyfriend Matt Baker for the first time, days after confirming their relationship is over.

‘Sadly, the reports are true,’ she said. ‘We still care for each other, we’ll stay friends and I’m sure we’ll be a part of each other’s lives in the future.

‘Now we each just want to focus on our families, our work and our friends as we move forward.’

The actress – who has 23-year-old David and 21-year-old Emily with former partner Dave Cunliffe, as well as Polly, seven, with ex-husband Jamie Lomas – was first reported to have split from Matt over the weekend.

A source told MailOnline: ‘Sadly, we can confirm Kym and Matt have made the decision to take some time apart, but remain friends. There will be no further comment at this time’.

It’s understood that pressure piled on by their decision to splash out £500,000 on a lovenest for themselves just two months ago caused a rift in their romance.

‘They wanted this to work out and have spent weeks trying to work through the issues but, sadly, it just wasn’t to be,’ an insider told The Sun.

All over: ‘Sadly, the reports are true,' she said. 'We still care for each other, we’ll stay friends and I’m sure we’ll be a part of each other’s lives in the future'

‘In the end, they both agreed it was for the best that they go their separate ways despite buying a house together so recently.’

It was also reported that their careers played a part in their separation, with personal trainer Matt working hard on opening a new restaurant, and Kym putting in long hours on set.

The insider added: ‘Matt has been working on opening a new restaurant while Kym does very long hours on set with Coronation Street – while also being a committed mum to her children.

‘The pressure of moving proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back but they’re determined to keep things civilised. It has just been a very upsetting period for everyone involved.’
