Kym Marsh says lockdown has allowed her to spend more quality time with her army officer boyfriend

Kym Marsh has revealed that lockdown has been a blessing to her as she’s been able to spend more quality time with her army officer boyfriend.

The former Coronation Street star, 44, explained how Parachute Regiment major Scott Ratcliff, 32, had been serving in Afghanistan when he was sent back home amid Covid-19 restrictions.

And Scott’s rare long stint at home means that Kym gets to see more of her beau now that he’s at home for a longer stretch, remarking: ‘I feel so lucky to be in this situation.’

The couple had been dating since July 2018 but have had to endure long stints of separation as Scott serves abroad, with Kym admitting last April that they had at the time been apart for seven months.

Sharing her joy at Scott being around more, she told The Sun: ‘He’s actually home. He was due to go to staff college in September but we’ve ended up spending most of the past year together.’

‘I feel so lucky to be in this situation. It has given me the opportunity to have more time with Scott, my son David, my daughters Emilie and Polly and the rest of my family. I’m not taking those things for granted.’

Meanwhile, Kym has discussed the popularity of her BBC daytime show Morning Live, which she presents with Gethin Jones.

The former Hear’Say star noted that although they’ve ‘mistakes’ with the relatively new show, the success may be helped by the fact that viewers could connect and relate to her, adding she was’ quite normal’.

‘I’ve always felt you’ve got to take ownership of your mistakes. We wouldn’t be human beings if we didn’t make them, and I make them publicly. But I’d like to think people saw something normal in that. Perhaps it helps people relate to me a bit.’

The star added that when she left Corrie after 15 and landed the presenting gig, she had to question her agent to ask if it was a mistake as she thought it a ‘risk’ taking her on.

She went on to say that the success of the show, which regularly attracts 1.5 million viewers, was something that could not have dreamt of.

She also admitted she felt ‘lucky’ to have tried singing, acting and now presenting, joking that her mum would no doubt brand her a ‘Jack of all trades.’

In February, Kym was absent from Morning Live for a period of time after her hernia surgery recovery ‘took much longer’ than she expected.

The TV personality returned to the show after she had grappled with the effects of her ‘horrendous’ operation.

Upon her return, co-star Gethin, 43, said: ‘Lovely to have you back and the recovery just took so much longer than you expected?’

To which Kym admitted: ‘So much longer, I’ve been so bored of it. You know when you get sick of yourself?

‘I’ve just been literally fed up with myself every day but yeah it’s just been a bit of a long road but hopefully now on the right one!’

Gethin sweetly added that he had ‘missed’ his co-host and that viewers had been messaging the show about their excitement of Kym returning.
