Landscapers FIRST LOOK: Olivia Coleman transforms into double murderer Susan Edwards

Landscapers FIRST LOOK: Olivia Coleman transforms into double murderer Susan Edwards as she stars alongside David Thewlis in gritty new Sky drama

Olivia Coleman transformed into double murderer Susan Edwards in first look images released on Tuesday of the upcoming gritty Sky drama Landscapers.

The Crown star, 47, was seen slumped in bed in the dark in the new stills from the show as the killer, who became notorious in 2014 after she was convicted of killing her parents.

Olivia stars alongside Harry Potter legend David Thewlis, 58, – playing her husband and accomplice Christopher – who looked bewildered in the new pictures as he sat in a prison cell all alone.

Olivia channelled the dowdy but creepy Susan with a cardigan and blue shirt as she sat in bed covered by a patterned blanket as an image of a man was projected on the wall.

She also had her hair styled into a grey bob as she stared eerily into the distance in the tiny bedroom.

Meanwhile David looked worlds away from his well known Harry Potter character Remus Lupin in a beige cardigan and glasses.

In another black and white shot the pair appeared stoney faced as they stood behind a glass barrier in what looked to be a court room.

The pair beamed at each other in a final image released today as they cooked up a plan during a dinner out together.

The production is a family affair as the four-part drama is the first television screenplay written by Olivia’s husband Ed Sinclair.

Susan and Christopher Edwards were jailed for life after shooting her parents in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, in 1998 and burying them in the garden, where they lay undiscovered for 15 years.

The couple pretended their victims were still alive while looting £250,000 of their savings and pensions to buy Hollywood memorabilia – especially Gary Cooper’s autographs.

Friends assumed the slain couple had gone travelling and never returned, with their killers forging Christmas cards to keep up the pretence. They gave themselves in after the bodies were found in 2013.

The drama – described as ‘blackly comic’ – is said to draw viewers into ‘the surreal fantasy world that Susan and Christopher created by casting themselves as their Hollywood heroes in stories of their own invention’.

After landing the role Olivia said: ‘I love Ed’s scripts… just as well as he cooks many of my meals.

‘It’s rare to be desperate to play a part on the first reading of a script, but that was the case here.’

Olivia and David are joined by Kate O’Flynn (Bridget Jones’s Baby), Dipo Ola (We Hunt Together), Samuel Anderson (The History Boys), David Hayman (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), Felicity Montagu (I’m Alan Partridge) and Daniel Rigby (Eric and Ernie, Flowers) to make up the cast.

The series was commissioned by Zai Bennett, Managing Director of Content, Sky UK and Ireland and is Executive Produced by Serena Thompson for Sky Studios.

Landscapers will air on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW later this year.
