Lara Trump says Joe Biden is ‘pandering for votes’ by selecting female running mate in Kamala Harris

Lara Trump has accused Joe Biden of ‘pandering for votes’ and playing ‘identity politics’ by tapping Kamala Harris to join his presidential ticket.

Trump, a senior adviser to her father-in-law Donald’s campaign, hit out at the presumptive Democratic nominee in an interview with Fox News’ Judge Jeanine Pirro on Saturday night.

She said she was ‘insulted’ by how Biden announced months ago that he would pick a woman as his running mate.

‘Let’s not worry about qualifications. Let’s not worry about what they bring to the table,’ Trump said, mocking Biden.

‘If these people want to stand up for equality, people in this country will never be fully equal in their eyes until they stop pandering for votes and playing identity politics.’

Trump, who is married to the president’s son Eric, continued: ‘I have found it very interesting that the mainstream media and the people on the left think that the women in this country are stupid.

‘Apparently, they forgot that the identity politics they tried to play in 2016, when they suggested that women should vote for someone named Hillary Clinton because she was a woman, didn’t work then, it’s not going to work.’

Trump accused the mainstream media of going ‘into overdrive with a love fest of sorts for Kamala Harris’ when Biden picked her as his vice presidential running mate.

But she said she is not worried about Harris helping bring Biden the female and minority vote, saying: ‘It is still Joe Biden, old slow Joe, at the top of that ticket, and that is what ultimately matters.’

She said she is looking forward to presidential debates this fall because she believes Donald Trump will be able to expose Biden’s weaknesses.

‘People are going to fully see that this man does not have all his faculties about him,’ Lara Trump said of Biden.

‘They are going to fully see that the radicalization of Joe Biden and the Democrat Party is complete, that he is a full-blown socialist.’

‘Our strategy has always been to remind people about the incredible job that this president did with his first three-and-a-half years in office,’ she added.

Team Trump came out strong with attacks on Harris as soon as she was officially announced as Biden’s running mate last week.

The president himself hit out at Harris in an interview on Sunday, claiming that the California senator is among the most liberal lawmakers in Congress.

‘She is super liberal,’ Donald Trump told Fox News commentator Eric Bolling on his show ‘America This Week’.

‘I have actually heard that she is the most liberal person in Congress. More liberal than Bernie Sanders.’

‘Kamala’s a socialist,’ he added, asserting that Biden had been ‘brought over’ to the far-left.

The president’s comparison to Sanders came as the progressive Vermont senator prepares to throw his support – and in turn the support of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party – behind Biden and Harris amid concerns from far-left factions over some of Biden’s middle-of-the-line stances.

‘She’s really going to be running it,’ Trump said of Harris, the first black woman to ever appear on a major party’s presidential ballot.

‘She is a disaster. She’s not a person that’s liked. I think people will fall out of love with her very quickly.’

Members of the Trump campaign came under fire last week after they promoted a ‘birtherism’ conspiracy theory that Harris is not eligible to run for vice president because her parents are immigrants.

The president’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows sought to stamp out attention to the Trump campaign’s promotion of the theory in an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday.

‘[Do] you accept that she is eligible to be vice president?’ Tapper asked Meadows on his show ‘State of the Union’.

‘Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. I do, yes,’ Meadows replied emphatically.

‘You and a number in the media, you all have spent more time on it than anybody in the White House has talked about this,’ he continued.

‘I’m more concerned with Kamala Harris’ liberal ideas coming from San Francisco to the rest of America than I am whether she was  –  where she was born or anything else.

‘It’s the policies born out of California that would take root across the country that’s problematic for me.’

President Trump also said Saturday that he will ‘not be pursuing’ baseless claims that Harris, 55, is ineligible to run for vice president because both of her parents were not naturalized citizens at the time of her birth.

Harris was born in Oakland, California in 1964 to parents who emigrated from Jamaica and India. She is an American citizen eligible for federal office.

When asked about her eligibility to serve as VP on the ticket with Biden, Donald Trump said: ‘I just don’t know about it, but it’s not something that we will be pursuing.’

However, the president didn’t actually say affirmatively if Harris is eligible for the role.

‘I know nothing about it, but it’s not something that bothers me,’ he said during a news briefing at his golf resort in Bedminster, New Jersey.

Pressed on the matter, he said: ‘If it was an issue you’d think it would have been vetted by sleepy Joe.’
