Late designer Carla Zampatti will be honoured posthumously with an award in her name at the Australian Fashion Laureate


Six months after her tragic death, it’s been announced that Carla Zampatti will be honoured posthumously.

According to a report by The Daily Telegraph on Thursday, the late fashion designer will have a new award named in her honour at the Australian Fashion Laureate.

The Carla Zampatti Award for Excellence in Leadership will be given to a worthy recipient in November.

The award will be presented by Zampatti’s children, daughters Bianca and Allegra Spencer, and son Alex Schuman.

‘Mum dedicated her life to the Australian fashion industry, so for her life’s work to be honoured in such a way is a true honour for Bianca, Allegra and me,’ said Alex.

‘We look forward to presenting this award to the winner in November.’

Zampatti died on April 3 aged 78, a week after falling down stairs while attending the opening night of the La Traviata opera on Sydney Harbour. 

She was knocked unconscious after falling on the bottom steps of a staircase and was then rushed to hospital immediately. 

According to a report by The Daily Telegraph at the time, she went into a coma after the fall and never woke up.

‘Today I lost my mother, my inspiration, my mentor and my friend,’ fashion designer Bianca, 43, wrote alongside two family photos on Instagram.

She added: ‘I am lost for words and totally heartbroken.’ 

Zampatti was later farewelled at a state funeral at Sydney’s St Mary’s Cathedral.
