Late night show hosts had a field day with Melania Trump’s bizarre jacket choice yesterday.
The First Lady decided to don a Zara jacket with the message ‘I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ scrawled across it in graffiti style writing, during a visit to immigrant children separated from the parents by border agents, at a center in McAllen, Texas.
For some, the tone deaf fashion choice was almost unbelievable.
Stephen Colbert said he and his shocked team checked the photo ‘so many times because we thought this has to be fake.

‘But today, on her way to show that she cares, Melania wore a jacket that says, ‘I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?”
The Late Show host joked that a first lady visiting disadvantaged immigrant children, should have been a PR home run for the White House.
‘I thought, ‘OK, this is what first ladies often do – you go to a troubled area, they see the children, they show that we care … you can’t mess that up.”
‘Guess what?’ he added. ‘I spoke too soon.’
Late night show hosts like Seth Myers (above) had a field day with Melania Trump’s bizarre jacket choice yesterday
Colbert said that he was stunned that the people around Melania would allow her to get on Air Force One, in front of the world’s media, with the offensive jacket.
‘That’s what they settled on? What was her first choice? A jacket that says, ‘Womp, womp?” added Colbert, referring to a comment from Trump’s former campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, who callously mocked an immigrant girl, 10, with Down syndrome who was separated from her mother at the border.
Late Night’s Seth Meyers also ripped into the jacket, suggesting that if the outer wear had any message, it could relate to Melania and Donald Trump’s ‘wedding vows.’
In the White House: The slogan was there for all to see as Melania made her way to the Oval Office – at almost the same time as her husband tweeted that it was a message for the ‘Fake News Media’, not immigrant children she had visited at the border
Shocking: The green Zara design featured the controversial phrase across the back – with the wording visible from the side as Melania boarded her plane at Andrews Air Force Base
Defense: President Trump tweeted in response to the outcry on Thursday evening, stating that the message on his wife’s jacket ‘refers to the Fake News Media’
‘You know, lot of people are giving her a hard time about it, but I think it’s nice that she had a jacket made to display her wedding vows,’ he joked.
‘You take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?’ ‘I don’t care. Do you?’ ‘No.’ ‘
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who appeared to be at the end of his tether about the Trumps, said: ‘It looks like when Melania was in the hospital, she had her last f**k removed.’
He also echoed Mysers, joking: ‘It is kind of sweet that she made a jacket out of her and Donald’s wedding vows. That’s really cool! I like that.’
Melania’s spokeswoman emphatically claimed after the media furor, that Melania hadn’t been trying to send any message with her ‘jacket seen round the world.’

‘It’s just a jacket. … There was no hidden message,’ the said. The claim was immediately undermined by the president who tweeted that it had beena commentary on the ‘Fake News Media.’
Colbert said he agreed with one point, the message is ‘definitely not hidden.’
‘It’s right on the back. And i’m going to guess this is one message she did not steal from Michelle Obama,’ he said, referring to claims that Melania plagiarized the former First Lady’s speeches.
‘She’s forgotten the most important fashion advice,’ he added. ‘Before you leave the house, look in the mirror, and take off that jacket.’
‘Is the president now tweeting onto his wife’s clothes?’ Jimmy Kimmel asked on his show.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon joked that maybe it wasn’t Melania’s jacket to begin with
‘There either was or wasn’t a hidden message,’ he said. ‘It was one of those two things.’
The host of Jimmy Kimmel Live also pointed out the hypocrisy of the right’s fury when the Obamas chose to wear anything other than very formal, traditional attire.
‘Remember when Michelle Obama showed her bare arms and went to an oil spill, and Fox News went nuts? I’m sure they’ll have the same reaction to this,’ he added.
Indeed, that happened. The right also lost its mind when President Obama wore a tan suit, with one Republican lawmaker even claiming that the choice of clothing put national security at risk.
Meanwhile, Jimmy Fallon joked that maybe it wasn’t Melania’s jacket to begin with.
‘President Trump was going through his closet… where the hell is my coat, where is my favorite coat?’
Jimmy Kimmel recalled the right’s fury when the Obamas ever dared to wear anything different
