Laura Woods has taken Jamie O’Hara to task after the former Spurs midfielder claimed that Jesse Lingard should join Jose Mourinho’s side over north London rivals Arsenal.

Lingard has enjoyed a fruitful spell at West Ham after joining from Manchester United in a loan switch in January, scoring eight goals in nine games for David Moyes’ side as they bid to seal an unlikely place in the Champions League next season.

The 28-year-old’s red-hot form has this week seen him linked with the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Real Madrid and Inter Milan, while Premier League side Arsenal are reportedly monitoring the Englishman.

And O’Hara, 34, a regular pundit on talkSPORT, explained that Lingard should opt to join his former side over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, before the irritated breakfast host succinctly provided six rebuttals to his claim.

‘I personally don’t think there is any point in leaving West Ham to go to Arsenal,’ the former Spurs, Wolves and Blackpool star said.

‘I don’t think Arsenal are going to be pulling up any trees in the next few seasons, I can’t see them going out and spending big money.

‘He should go to Tottenham because they are a club who are going to…’

However, breakfast show host Woods succinctly rebutted O’Hara’s view with six responses

At this point Woods, an Arsenal fan, interrupts her co-host to take him to task over his analysis.

‘Why would he go to Tottenham if he wouldn’t go to Arsenal?’ she asks, to which O’Hara replies: ‘Because we are miles above Arsenal’.

Unconvinced, Woods responds: ‘Well you’re not. You are a few points above Arsenal at the moment’.

‘Arsenal are so average. So average’, a thus-far unflappable O’Hara retaliated.

Woods then reminds O’Hara: ‘But you have just spent the whole morning destroying Spurs.’

‘We are on a rebuild,’ O’Hara insisted, to which Woods responded: ‘Your best player [Harry Kane] is probably going to leave in the summer.’

‘This is true’, O’Hara concedes, before Woods puts the boot in on her co-host by adding: ‘You have got a manager that makes your team not even want to play football for him’.

Realising that he may have made an error in comparing the two sides, O’Hara told Woods to ‘stop it’ with a wry smile before the breakfast show host said: ‘Your fans don’t even want to watch you play, why would Jesse Lingard want to go there?’

Football supporters have lapped up the exchange, with one Twitter user saying: ‘@laura_woodsy going full Roy Keane on Jamie O’Hara’. The talkSPORT presenter responded with laughing emojis.

‘Full Roy Keane. So true,’ one fan wrote. ‘If that was a game of football Woodsy just ‘did’ Jamie O’Hara Haland [sic] style. Don’t mess with Woodsy. Look at her face, not a single sign of compassion. Not to be messed with.’

Another user said ‘@laura_woodsy tell him how you really feel. Savage’.

One supporter reflected that O’Hara was out of his depth when taking on the popular host, writing: ‘Mismatch of the century when it comes to a football debate she’s ruined him’.

Lingard rose to the occasion for the injury-hit Hammers to help Moyes’ side defeat Leicester 3-2 in a crucial top four clash on Sunday that keeps them in fourth position with just seven games of the 2020-21 campaign remaining.

The Irons are just one point ahead of London rivals Chelsea in fifth, while champions Liverpool are three points behind in sixth.

The Foxes are one point ahead of the east London side and risk being dumped out of the top four, as was the case last season.
