He appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday where Magistrate Suzette Coates initially refused to hear the matter due to her history dealing with him as a lawyer.

‘Oh, Mr Cullen is the defendant,’ she said when she realised.

‘I would feel most uncomfortable with doing that and I need to get a magistrate outside the jurisdiction.’

Mr Cullen’s defence lawyer eventually spoke with her to inform her he was simply hoping to adjourn the matter.

Magistrate Coates granted Mr Cullen bail and agreed he did not have to appear at his next court date.

‘I won’t be too hard on you. It’s very humiliating to appear on that side and I feel very sorry for seeing you there.’
