Lazio fear David Silva will make U-turn on free transfer after the Manchester City midfielder ‘ignored calls’ from the Italian side… sparking concerns he is weighing up other options

  • David Silva was expected to join Lazio on a free transfer from Manchester City
  • But the out of contract playmaker has broken off contact from the Serie A side
  • Lazio are now concerned that the 34-year-old has got cold feet over a move
  • Silva has played his last game for City after 10 years following shock Lyon defeat

Lazio are worried over missing out on Manchester City’s David Silva, with the veteran playmaker reportedly ‘ignoring calls’ from the Italian side over trying to confirm a transfer.

The 34-year-old has played his last game for City, after appearing as a late substitute in their shock 3-1 defeat by Lyon in the Champions League quarter-finals on Saturday night.

Silva is now out of contract at the Etihad Stadium and with the Premier League club’s blessing will leave after a decade’s service.

Lazio believe they already had an agreement in place to sign the former Spain international though and were expecting him to officially confirm the deal this week.

However Corriere dello sport have claimed the Serie A side have been left worried by the player not responding to any of their calls made to him to confirm the deal would go ahead as planned.

Lazio, who produced a brief title challenge to Juventus before finishing fourth in Serie A, are seriously concerned with the deal falling through as it would likely severely dent their summer plans for improving the squad.

Silva was supposed to show his intentions over a move ‘via a signature or an email’ on Monday but had still not contacted the club by Thursday.

The club now fear that Silva has got cold feet over a move to the Italian capital and is weighing up offers from other clubs elsewhere.

Silva’s brother is said to have appointed a ‘pool of lawyers to investigate ALL contracts on offer’.

It is believed Silva has been offered £52,000-a-week to join Lazio with additional incentives including a private jet and a luxury home in Rome.

Another incentive of the deal was a multi-year contract, with Silva still believing he has five more years at the top.

Lazio players have been excited over the possibility of the City star joining the club.

Sere A top goal scorer and European golden shoe winner Ciro Immobile said he is a ‘great player and great experience, we are waiting for him with open arms. I can’t wait for him to arrive, before Lazio players we are Lazio fans.’
