Leaked Samsung sales brochure reveals Galaxy Note 8 specs

A Samsung leaflet apparently intended for their Australian market has been leaked ahead of the much anticipated launch of the Galaxy Note 8.

With less than a week to go, anticipation has been mounting over the Seoul-based firm’s latest flagship handset.

The marketing material appears to confirm a number of rumoured specs, including plans for a rear dual camera and wireless charging.

RUMOURED SPECS

Leaked images suggest the Galaxy Note 8 will more rectangular than the Galaxy S8, slightly larger and will be sold in black and gold.

It’s expected to include a 6.3 inch Super AMOLED ‘infinity display’ with an 18.5:9 ratio bezeless screen.

It could be the first Samsung device to incorporate a dual-lens camera on the rear, with a 12-megapixel sensor for each.

Like previous Note devices, the latest model will come with an S Pen stylus, the images suggest.

The processor is thought to be the Snapdragon 835 or Exynos 8895 at the helm.

It is expected to have 6GB of RAM and new software that will improve split-screen multitasking.

Rumours have said customers will receive their handsets, costing over $900 (£700 / €999), in September.

The flyer, obtained by Ausdroid, lists the main features of the phone as well as how to set it up.

If genuine, it confirms that the Note 8 will feature a 6.3-inch QHD+ Infinity Display with S Pen support, as well as supporting wireless charging.

The dual camera will have f/1.7 lenses and 2X optical zoom and image stabilisation capabilities, as well as iris scanning security protection.

It lists the handset as having IP68 certification, which means it will be dust and water resistant.

The brochure says the phone will be compatible with Samsung’s Smart Switch app that will let you transfer all your data from previous models.

It also suggests that, for customers in Australia at least, black and gold will be the only colour options available.

Previous rumours have suggested a third deep blue colour would be available exclusively to Note 8 buyers, which is not an option for the S8.

A cryptic video was released by Samsung on Tuesday ahead of the Galaxy Note 8’s grand unveiling on August 23.

The 37 second-long video centres around a prominent showing for the device’s characteristic S-Pen stylus.

A blue animation of the stylus is shown cutting through buzzwords like ‘step’ to reveal a more ambitious concept like ‘leap’.

Similarly ‘closed’ becomes ‘open’ and ‘impossible’ becomes ‘possible’.

The video ends with the hashtag #DoWhatYouCant and the message ‘Galaxy Unpacked 08.23.2017 live on Samsung.com’.

Despite the lack of further details of the phone’s design and specifications, the video has already prompted a reaction from fans on social media.

Although the device will be launched next Wednesday, it is not expected to go on sale until September.

Phone carriers in the US leaked information about the release last week and they’re anticipating a three week delay until the phone goes on sale.

Representatives from two carriers, who kept themselves and the phone companies they are with anonymous, said the device will go on sale September 15, although did not reveal pricing.

The early launch is designed to deflect attention from Apple’s expected September unveiling of its eagerly anticipated iPhone 8.

‘We are going to sell Galaxy Note 8 starting from the 15th of September,’ explained one carrier representative to ETNews, which correctly predicted the launch and release dates for the Galaxy S8.

‘Its price has not been set yet,’ they said.

A representative from a different carrier corroborated the information, also saying September 15 is the final date.

‘Samsung Electronics decided on the release date of Galaxy Note 8,’ the source said.

There is almost zero chance that it will change the release date of Galaxy Note 8.’

The gap is to allow time for advertising to entice consumers while the company builds up inventory, yet this delay is a week longer than the one for the disastrous Galaxy Note 7.

Pre-order information remains unknown as well, although providers are speculating consumers will be able to begin order 10 to 14 days prior to the September 15 release.

Popular Samsung leaker Evan Blass recently tweeted a link to his Venture Beat article about the Galaxy Note 8’s final specs as well as what seemed to be a promotional image for the phone.

Blass later confirmed to Forbes that the image is ‘official’ and will be used to market the device.

The leaked images of the phone he shared allegedly reveal Samsung’s answer to the iPhone 8 will be more rectangular than the Galaxy S8 and will be sold in black and gold.

Samsung had first dropped hints about a follow-up to its exploding Galaxy Note Series in April.

The Seoul firm was forced to recall the handset last year after devices overheated and caused fires or started smoking due to battery problems.

The recall began last October and cost the company $19 billion (£14.7 billion) after it was discovered that the devices were prone to overheating and bursting into flames.

Samsung also launched a vast inquiry into the issue that is expected to cost the company an estimated $5.3 billion (£4.1 billion).

Airliners banned the devices over safety fears and the company had to recall three million handsets.

It later claimed a battery fault in the Galaxy Note 7 was to blame.

It was announced in March that the South Korean firm will begin to sell refurbished versions of the ill-fated tablet phone, as well as plans to rebrand it.

Pictures of the new handset leaked online revealed what it will look like and, unsurprisingly, it’s exactly the same.

Although Samsung did not plan on building ticking time bombs, they could have avoided this disaster by giving the Note 7 devices a user-removable battery, according to one expert.

‘Samsung made some poor design choices with a phone that ended up being a fire hazard,’ Gary Cook, senior corporate campaigner and IT sector analyst at Greenpeace told the DailyMail.com.

‘Previously, Samsung designed its smartphones to let customers remove the battery themselves, which is great.’

‘Now, they’ve shifted to using adhesive to put the battery in and it is difficult to remove.’

‘That is why they are recalling the entire phone, instead of just being able replace the battery.’

FIRST GLIMPSE OF THE NOTE 8?

A nine second video was uploaded to Weibo, China’s leading social media site in May.

It was later posted on Twitter by the leaker @mmddj_china.

If the video is to be believed, the new Note 8 would have a 6.3 inch screen which would reach to each edge of the device.

This bezel-less design is similar to the Infinity Display featured on the Galaxy S8 and S8+ released earlier this year.

A similar design is rumoured for the next flagship iPhone.

The screen dimensions shown would make the Note 8 0.6 inches larger than its predecessor.

It would also be 0.1 inches larger than the S8 + which would make it the largest flagship smartphone ever released by Samsung.

Other rumours suggest it will have a fingerprint scanner on the front as well as a dual camera on the rear.
