LeBron James claims Alabama Crimson Tide football team stole his ‘barber shop chats’ idea

LeBron James has accused the University of Alabama of stealing his idea after the football team released a video that closely resembles his online web series.

UNINTERRUPTED, the multimedia platform of the Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star, sent a letter to the university on Monday, accusing the Crimson Tide of copyright infringement and intellectual property appropriation, reportedESPN.

Alabama shared a preview of the series titled ‘Shop Talk’ on Twitter last week featuring head football coach Nick Saban, former Tide wide receiver Julio Jones and other football players having conversations while getting haircuts.

The letter contends that ‘Shop Talk’ is too similar to James’s series ‘The Shop’ – a barber shop forum in which James and others, such as Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green and rapper 2Chainz, discuss various topics while getting their hair styled.

On Monday, UNINTERRUPTED sent a letter to Alabama regarding the issues of copyright infringement and intellectual property appropriation.

‘Your continued exploitation of “Shop Talk” infringes “UNINTERRUPTED”‘s copyright, trademark rights and other valuable intellectual property rights in “The Shop” and significantly damages “UNINTERRUPTED”‘s commercial prospects for “The Shop,”‘ the letter reads, in part, according to ESPN.

However, before ‘rushing into legal proceedings’, the letter invites Alabama to have a conversation regarding the matter.

‘The Shop’ was created by James and UNINTERRUPTED co-founder Maverick Carter.

According to the letter, the first episode of ‘The Shop’ aired during the 2017 NBA Finals and garnered four million views from Uninterrupted.com and ESPN’s YouTube channel.

The Crimson Tide has won two of the last three College Football Playoff National Championship with Saban as head coach.

The program filmed ‘Shop Talk’ at the new Bama Cuts barbershop, which opened in the team’s on-campus headquarters in February.

In a statement to ESPN on Monday, Alabama’s associate vice president for communications, Monica Watts, said: ‘We are in the midst of reviewing this matter, which just came to our attention this morning.’
