A couple has been jailed after injuring a cyclist in a hit and run incident, while busy arguing behind the wheel.

Aromatherapy tycoon, and Citizens’ Advice volunteer, Amanda Brown and Terry Leach were in the midst of a ‘full blown domestic’ when they hit a cyclist in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The couple, who have since broken up, left the victim in a pool of blood and drove away, however they were caught after the Volkswagen Touran’s licence plate fell off at the scene.

Terry Leach, 49, and Amanda Brown, 38, were arguing when they crashed into one cyclist and two cars in Leeds

Brown, 38, was driving Leach’s car without a licence at the time of the incident.

Leeds Crown Court heard the crash was one-of-three collisions caused by the pair on July 6 last year.

The car drove through red lights and hit a car at a junction at 11.30pm, before hitting the cyclist and speeding away without stopping.

Prosecutor Carmel Pearson said the cyclist was left in a pool of blood, but was lucky to walk away with only minor injuries.

The couple then crashed into a parked car a short distance away, where they were caught by police.

Police caught the pair swapping seats after the third crash in an attempt to save the unlicensed Brown.

Leach also falsely reported later that his car was stolen in a further bid to cover up the offence.

Brown was jailed for eight months, after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance.

Leach was jailed for six months, after pleading guilty to a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Elyas Patel, Brown’s counsel, said: ‘They had been in a year long relationship.

‘They were, to use the vernacular, having a full blown domestic as they travelled through those streets.’

Nicholas De La Poer, Leach’s counsel, said his client’s offence was committed  ‘out of a desire to protect a loved one.’
