Leeds ‘launch talks’ with RB Salzburg’s Tyler Adams and Mohamed Camara as Kalvin Phillips nears exit

Leeds ‘in talks’ with RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams and Salzburg prospect Mohamed Camara… as director of football Victor Orta seeks to replace Kalvin Phillips by targeting midfielders at boss Jesse Marsch’s former clubs

Leeds have launched talks with RB Leipzig’s Tyler Adams and RB Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara as potential replacements for Manchester City-bound Kalvin Phillips, according to a report.

England midfielder Phillips is expected to agree terms with City next week after Leeds finalised a £45m deal with the Premier League champions, leaving the Whites with a considerable gap to fill ahead of the 2022/23 season.

USA regular Adams, who worked with Leeds boss Jesse Marsch at New York Red Bulls and Leipzig, is ‘high up’ on director of football Victor Orta’s list, the YEP has said.

Mali international Kamara also played for Marsch in the Austrian Bundesliga, although the outlet claims the 22-year-old would be a ‘pricier’ option for Leeds.

Adams was deployed as a defensive midfielder in almost all of his 36 appearances for the Bundesliga side last season, occasionally playing as a right-winger and at right-back, where he has deputised in previous seasons.

Kamara played the same number of games in front of Salzburg’s defence, scoring once and providing four assists for the Austrian champions.

Orta has already launched a £26m bid for promising Bruges’ Charles de Ketelaere, a left-footed attacker who can play behind a striker or on either wing and scored 15 times for his club and Belgium last season.

Box-to-box City midfielder Darko Gyabi is joining Leeds for £5m as an 18-year-old player for the future, with Wolves’ Adama Traore and PSV sensation Cody Gakpo under consideration once Raphinha makes his expected departure.

De Ketelaere can provide versatility for Leeds who have also discussed Wolves’ Adama Traore and Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven to fill the void that will be left by Raphinha’s expected sale.

Arsenal want Raphinha but the Brazil winger, who is valued at £65m by Leeds, is holding out for a move to Barcelona.

Marsch also wants to add a left-back and an experienced goalkeeper, with Watford’s Ben Foster a possible option.

Leeds players who have not been involved in internationals will return to Thorp Arch for training on Monday.
