Lesbian couple with a 37-YEAR age gap reveal cruel troll comments

A lesbian couple with a 37-year-old age gap have revealed the cruelest comments they’ve received on social media, saying one stranger compared their relationship to Adolph Hitler’s war crimes.

YouTubers Julia Zelg, 27, and Eileen De Freest, 64, have been together for about four years and married for three. On a recent episode of Truly’s ‘Love Don’t Judge,’ they opened up about the abuse they face online.

‘We don’t even get that much judgment about our relationship in real life,’ explained Zelg, who is originally from Brazil but lives in London with De Freest. ‘Sometimes people stare a little bit trying to figure things out.’

The singer admitted that people often think her wife is her mom at first glance because of their significant age difference.

‘They’re like, “They’re awfully affectionate those two,”‘ joked De Freest, who was born in the US and also works as a political pundit.

‘Or they see us kissing, and they’re like, “What?”‘ Zelg added. ‘But no one has actually ever said anything negative to us in real life.’

The couple met on Tinder and were together for less than a year when Zelg popped the question during a performance in London. Shortly after, De Freest proposed to her during a trip to Brazil.

Their wedding took place at a 5-star hotel in London on June 8, 2019, with both brides wearing elegant white gowns and sporting pink hair for their big day.

De Freest is eight years older than her wife’s mother, but their families have been supportive of their union. The only time they face backlash over their relationship is online.

'A lot of hate comments are really funny, and they all have really bad punctuation and grammar,' explained Zelg, who is originally from Brazil but lives in London with De Freest

‘I start reading comments and when I see that something’s kind of negative I just blur my eyes and go to the next one,’ explained Zelg, who has more than 300,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 70,000 followers on Instagram.

‘Sometimes mean comments do upset me,’ she admitted. ‘We’re only human.’

When Zelf pulled out her phone, she shared that one person simply wrote ‘demon’ in all capital letters while commenting on one of her posts.

‘A lot of hate comments are really funny, and they all have really bad punctuation and grammar,’ she explained.

Another person wrote to De Freest, ‘MUM, I NEED YOU TO COME BACK HOME AND LEAVE THE MINORS ALONE!!’

‘That’s horrible,’ Zelg said, but De Freest couldn’t help but laugh.

Someone else had the audacity to ask her why she didn't 'marry a man' because she is a 'beautiful girl.'

‘That’s really pretty funny, though,’ she insisted.

Someone else accused Zelg of being a gold digger, which is a common misconception that people have about their marriage.

‘Does the old woman have money?’ the stranger asked. The only reason I can see for this. Sure ain’t love!!!

Zelg noted that her wife ‘doesn’t have money,’ and she is actually the breadwinner in their household.

‘I don’t mean to be disrespectful or anything, but I make more than Eileen, and it’s kind of awful for me to have to come out and say that,’ she said. ‘It makes me so angry because I work very hard.’

Zelg recalled how she immigrated to the UK from Brazil, saying she put herself through college and graduate school to get where she is today.

‘I would never take someone’s money, and I would never be with someone for money,’ she insisted.

However, the most offensive comment Zelg and De Freest read out loud came from an online troll who compared their love to a war crime.

‘I bet even if Hitler came back from the Gulag, he won’t do crimes worse than this,’ the person wrote, prompting them to point out that the sentence is both nonsensical and historically inaccurate.

The stranger seemed to confuse Hitler’s Nazi concentration camps with the Gulag, a system of labor camps in the Soviet Union from 1930 to 1955.

‘The sentence is all wrong. I mean, my English is s**t, but even my English is better,’ Zelg said. ‘Honestly, do you seriously think being gay and being with an older person is worse than what Hitler did? That’s messed up.’

Another online troll claimed advised they ‘repent and follow Christ’ so they don’t burn in hell for ‘eternity.’

Zelg estimated that half of the hateful comments they receive are religion-based, and while she is supportive of religious freedom, she is firmly against people using their beliefs as an excuse to spread hate.

Someone else had the audacity to ask her why she didn’t ‘marry a man’ because she is a ‘beautiful girl.’

‘That’s just so offensive,’ she said. ‘It’s like, “Oh you’re only a lesbian because you’re ugly or no man wants you.”‘

De Freest added that many criticisms they have faced are based on her looks.

‘It’s not about you,’ she told her wife. ‘It’s about my fatness. You know what I mean? My heaviness has been part of it. Fat people and skinny people often aren’t seen together.’

Unfortunately, there is a lot of fatphobia as well out there, and it adds to us looking even more unconventional together,’ Zelg agreed.

‘I think a lot of it has to do with misogyny because they find it weird that two women are together in the first place, and they also can’t think of older women as being sexual beings,’ she added.

‘Love you two beautiful women, inside and out!!!!!!’ one person wrote, while someone else added, ‘Such a beautiful picture of you two.’

‘Your love is so beautiful! Don’t let mean people judge,’ someone else commented. ‘Love you both. Wishing you both a long and blessed life together.’

‘To me, that’s the best part of being on social media. I’ve always said you have the most amazing subscribers.’
