Lesbian teen fires back after account shares her picture

A lesbian teenager has brilliantly fired back after a viral Twitter account shared a photo of her with her girlfriend while incorrectly stating it showed a girl with her boyfriend.

Alexa, 17, and Noemi, 19, from Austin, Texas, have been dating for more than a year. In a sweet gesture, they got customized, matching debit cards with their couple pictures on them, so as to always keep their significant other’s needs in mind whenever they spend money.

Noemi shared a photo of the cards on Twitter earlier this year, writing in the caption: ‘My gf n i got customized debit cards’ next to a heart emoji.

The idea resonated with thousands of Twitter users, and Noemi’s post has now received more than 5,000 likes while being retweeted more than 1,900 times.

However, an account going by the handle @Relationship, which posts sentimental pictures and quotes, re-posted Noemi’s photo without attribution and changed one letter in her caption, making it look as though the cards depicted a heterosexual couple.

The post shared by @Relationship thus reads: ‘My bf n i got customized debit cards’ next to the same heart emoji Noemi had used.

Alexa, who told BuzzFeed she fell in love with Noemi as soon as she met her, noticed the new post and promptly clarified the situation on her own Twitter account.

‘Um this is my gf and I and we are LESBIANS, she wrote.

Responding: '[It's] very sad to know people don't consider that there ARE gay couples, and it was obvious it was two girls,' Alexa (pictured with Noemi) said

She also told BuzzFeed she found it upsetting that accounts such as @Relationship, which has raked in 134,000 followers thanks to its viral content, ‘are so heteronormative and couldn’t take into consideration it was two girls’.

The 17-year-old added that she would have appreciated a credit indicating the cards were hers and Noemi’s idea.

‘[It’s] very sad to know people don’t consider that there ARE gay couples, and it was obvious it was two girls,’ she added.

@Relationship has so far not responded to Alexa’s comment, not has it deleted its post or posted an updated version of it to indicate that it depicts a lesbian couple.

But several Twitter users have criticized to the viral account’s post, with one person writing: ‘Those are two beautiful females, respect that or don’t post their picture.’

Someone else reacted to @Relationship’s post by saying: ‘No dumba** the actual person in the card said its [sic] literally her and her girlfriend.’
