Leslie Grace continues filming for HBO’s Batgirl in Glasgow

Leslie Grace was joined by her co-stars Ivory Aquino and Jacob Scipio as they filmed scenes for Batgirl in Glasgow on Tuesday.

The new action film – starring Leslie, 27, in the titular role and Michael Keaton as the Dark Knight himself – has seen the Scottish city transform into the fictional location of Gotham City.

The actress could be seen to be in character as Barbara Gordon, wearing civilian clothing instead of her iconic blue boilersuit.

A Batgirl Film News Twitter account has claimed that Ivory has been cast as DC Extended Universe’s first trans character Alysia Yeoh.

The character was created for the Batgirl series and is described as Barbara’s best friend.

At the time of her first appearance, she was the first major transgender character written in a contemporary context to appear in an American comic book series.

Ivory was dressed in blue printed shirt, black trousers and a black and white woolly coat as she filmed the outdoor scene.

Also spotted on the set was new co-star Jacob, 29, who has been cast in an undisclosed role.

He donned a sharp black coat, over a cream jumper as he laughed with Leslie between takes.

Ivory, who previously starred in the miniseries When We Rise, came out as transgender in 2017.

Speaking to People, she said: ‘I want to show trans kids that it’s possible for them to have full, meaningful lives doing what they love. I am proof. I feel complete now.’

‘Growing up, I didn’t see anyone like myself,’ she explained.

The actress, who is from Thailand, started taking hormone therapy at 16 and started dressing in women’s clothes when she attended college in Boston.

Ivory underwent gender reassignment surgery in 2005, saying she did not care if she died in the process because it meant so much to her.

She said: ‘I walked out on the balcony, looked out at the ocean and was at peace that I might not wake up.

‘If it was my time to go, at least I would go as a woman.’ She woke up six hours later and felt complete.’

More than three decades after being the first Batman on the big screen, Keaton will be once again donning the cape and cowl.

The 70-year-old actor recently signed on to return as Batman a.k.a. Bruce Wayne in Warner Bros. and HBO Max’s Batgirl movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
