He experienced tragedy with his now wife Miley Cyrus when their home was destroyed in the deadly Malibu wildfires last November.

And Liam Hemsworth has revealed their wedding barely a month later was the light at the end of a dark period in their lives. 

The former Home and Away star, 29, addresses his loss in an interview with GQ Australia.

‘We wanted to make a new part of our lives – going through something this emotional with someone brings you closer,’ he tells the publication. 

Liam stunned his fans following the devastating fires by sharing a photo of their gutted property.

And in his candid interview, the Australian actor recalls the moment he found out he lost their home.

‘At about three or four AM, I got a call from Miley. She’d found out from a friend, and that was when she told me it was gone,’ he explains. 

Liam says the possession he most wished he had saved was a Rolex given to him by producers Lionsgate after the first Hunger Games movie came out.

He says he had imagined himself giving the watch to his first son.

In his candid interview, Liam also opens up about starting a family with Miley. 

He admits he definitely wants children, but not until the couple have fewer dogs in their home.

‘You couldn’t bring a baby into our house right now. But one day, we’ll know when it’s right… 10, 15, maybe 20 [kids]’, he explains.  

Liam and Miley wed just before Christmas in a secret wedding near Nashville.

The couple exchanged nuptials in their home in Franklin, Tennessee – contrary to initial speculation that they were planning to wed in Liam’s native Australia. 

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Miley also said the loss of their home in Malibu was a driver for them to exchange their vows.

‘What Liam and I went through together changed us. I’m not sure without losing Malibu we would have been ready to take this step or even get married.’
