So where is the Lib Dem leader’s dream destination and what is her favourite foreign city?
Here Jo Swinson talks about a disastrous Italian road trip, her favourite part of Scotland and if she would go on holiday with her political rivals…
What’s your earliest holiday memory?
My parents would pack us children in the back of the car and drive us all the way down from Glasgow to Cornwall overnight. It was a long drive, but worth it, and I have many happy memories of playing on the beach.
First trip abroad?
Going to Menorca when I was seven years old — all I remember is splashing about in the pool, but doing so gave me a lot more confidence as a swimmer.
Beach bum or culture vulture?
Whatever the children want to do!
Holiday from hell?
I once hired a car in Italy with my boyfriend of the time, en route to a wedding, and I can still recall all these ants coming out of the blowers and the vents. That really freaked me out.
Favourite part of Scotland?
Last summer, I visited the far north of Scotland with my husband, Duncan, and our children. We’ve also had lots of lovely holidays in Perthshire and the west coast islands, such as Arran. You’re really spoilt for choice.
Have you ever seen Nessie?
I spent quite a long time looking for it when I was running the Loch Ness Marathon around the loch, but I’m afraid I didn’t see a thing.
My children are great believers, though.
Favourite foreign city
Swinson says that Barcelona, pictured, is her favourite foreign city as she loves the architecture
I love Barcelona for the architecture — and you can’t beat the local food and the red wine.
Can’t travel without?
A good book.
Who would make the best travel buddy – Boris or Jezza?
I’m not really sure I would really like to go on holiday with either of them. My preference would be to send them together as far away from No 10 as possible.
Dream destination?
I don’t think that anywhere will ever top the place I went to with my husband on our honeymoon: the Galapagos Islands.
