Liev Schrieber and Tyne Daly return to Broadway for a revival of Doubt: A Parable

Liev Schreiber and Tyne Daly are returning to Broadway for a revival of the 2004 drama Doubt: A Parable.

The original production written by John Patrick Shanley debuted off-Broadway in 2004 before moving to Broadway in 2005, where it won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.

It was also adapted into the 2008 film Doubt starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Amy Adams, which Shanley also wrote and directed.

The revival is directed by Scott Ellis, with the Roundabout Theatre Company production debuting at the American Airlines Theatre in February 2024, via Deadline.

The news comes just weeks after Schreiber, 55, was trolled by Vanderpump Rules fans for suggesting an Ariana Madix interview wasn’t, ‘news.’

Daly will play Sister Aloysius, described as the, ‘prickly principal of an all-boys Catholic school in a working- class part of the Bronx,’ who is also said to be, ‘feared by students and colleagues alike.’

‘But when she suspects nefarious relations between the charismatic priest Father Flynn (Schreiber) and a student, she’s forced to wrestle with what’s fact, what’s fiction, and how much she’ll risk to expose the difference—all the while wrestling with her own bone-deep doubts,’ the description reads.

The remaining cast members, design team and a premiere date will be announced at a later time.

The original play starred Cherry Jones as Sister Aloysius and Brían F. O’Byrne as Father Flynn.

The production marks a reunion of sorts for Schreiber, who made his Broadway debut at the American Airlines Theatre in 2000 for Betrayal.

He would go on to win a Tony Award in 2005 for Best Featured Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Richard Roma in the revival of Glengarry Glen Ross.

Schreiber also earned Tony nominations for his work in Talk Radio and A View From the Bridge.

Doubt will be his first Broadway production since starring in 2016’s Les Liaisons Dangereuses at the Booth Theatre.
