Lifestyle: A dream home for the Keaton clan

A passion for Pinterest propelled actress DIANE KEATON’s new build for her family in Los Angeles. She takes us on a guided tour and talks us through the images that most inspired her

Diane’s living area was inspired by an image on the Pinterest site of an industrial kitchen that had black factory pendant lights hanging from its ceiling. ‘The living room tells the story of how families want the world to view their cultural aspirations. I embraced the natural light to keep the space from feeling cluttered,’ says Diane.

‘The photograph of this kitchen represents everything I wanted. It is simple, dynamic, friendly and framed by ever-changing light. Stretching across the width of the kitchen was my favourite object – a long table with chairs underneath the trusses. Nothing like a table shared with family, friends, Emmie the dog and The New York Times. Over and over I’ve returned to the image of what I refer to as “the heartbeat” of our house.’

‘The luxury of water, hot and cold, warm and soothing on your body makes the bathroom one of the greatest pleasures in life,’ she says. ‘There are over 50 billion pins on Pinterest and at least 200 million focus on bathrooms,’ she adds. ‘If pinning isn’t the way you want to spend your day, narrow it down by categorising what you want to address in your bathroom renovation. Take one step at a time,’ says Diane.
