LIFESTYLE: The colour of the year

Part blue, part green with a hint of grey, say hello to Tranquil Dawn, the shade that’s set to accent all areas by 2020

In this living room, the colour on the top part of the wall draws the eye upwards, making the space appear larger

Use the shade to create a relaxing space

Colour is at the heart of everything that we do,’ says Marianne Shillingford, senior creative director at Dulux paints. ‘It’s the language we use in our homes to express ourselves and our emotions.’ And looking at the company’s recently launched Colour of the Year for 2020 – chosen by interior designers, trend forecasters and architects, and based on shifts in social, economic and political trends – we’re set to embrace a new, chilled-out vibe.

Tranquil Dawn is a calming yet revitalising shade that sits somewhere between blue, green and grey on the colour wheel. ‘We wanted to create and champion a colour that captured the zeitgeist – the new luxury,’ says Marianne.

‘For us it’s about hope, meaning and human connection. ‘Our homes can provide peaceful havens in which to take time out and contemplate what really matters to us.’
