The man, who was later detained under the Mental Health Act, had, according to Lily, ‘steamed into her bedroom and threatened to stick a knife through her face.’

Saying it had taken ‘courage’ to leave her marriage, the star explained the incident had happened three weeks after the end of her union with  Sam Cooper, the father of her two children.

She said the stalker had broken into her home and attacked her, with the star forced to endure a six month wait until he was put in prison.

She also said their relationship had become ‘intermittent’ due to her promo schedule and as a result she laid on more work as she was ‘scared of rejection’ when she came home.

The singer said her and the children are really close now and have a ‘great relationship’.

The interview comes after a fan shockingly shared an underwear-free image of Lily onstage with her intimate area on show, with The Fear songstress deciding to use it to her advantage.

The author of the post wrote: ‘This photo will be on the internet forever Lils.’ MailOnline has black barred the image.

But she took the comment in her stride and didn’t appear to be offended that the image was being shared.

She retweeted it and wrote: ‘Look at my 2014 neatly trimmed vagina. 3 humans came out of there. #NoShame June 8th.’

Another fan was clearly amused and shared another of her sitting in a car with her private parts on show under a black sheer dress, writing: ‘Gr**ler alert.’

Lily retweeted this one as well, providing a link to her online shop, writing: ‘And another one. #NoShame June  https://LilyAllen.lnk.to/OfficialStore.’

When someone commenting that her likes were going up rapidly, she wrote: ‘The vagina effect.’

Another person wrote: ‘Going to actually take this photo to my waxer next time if that’s okay with you? #VaginaIdol.’

Lily retweeted that alongside a cry face emoji.
