Lily James looks stressed out while filming a serious scene on set of her upcoming thriller Relay

Lily James was spotted filming on set of her upcoming movie Relay in Newark, New Jersey, on Thursday.

In the scene, the 34-year-old actress sported a casual, unglamorous outfit as she sat on a park bench and appeared to smoke a cigarette during a seemingly tense phone conversation.

At one point, she was also spotted checking in and having a chat with the writer, director, and producer of the film — David Mackenzie, 57.

For her costume and makeup, the Pam & Tommy star modeled dark brunette hair that was styled in a loose and low ponytail with wavy face-framing money pieces.

The Downton Abbey vet  — who lamented the perils of modern dating after breaking up her now-ex Michael Shuman in February — was also spotted in minimal makeup to showcase her flawless skin and natural beauty.

The Golden Globe nominee wore a gray sweater, black trousers and dark brown hiking boots.

Over the semi-business casual ensemble, she wore a taupe trench coat and was spotted with a slouchy, black shoulder bag by her side.

The Cinderella alumna sat on the edge of a public bench by herself in the scene and was seen deep in thought after filming a scene talking on the phone.

She was also seen brewing over something on her mind and puffing on a cigarette to ease her stress.

When the cameras were not rolling, James appeared in good spirits as she chatted to the staff on set. 

In the thriller film, James stars alongside Avatar: The Way Of Water star Sam Worthington, as well as Oscar winner Riz Ahmed.

According to the synopsis on IMDb, Relay follows a fixer named Tom — played by Ahmed.

He ‘keeps his identity hidden while brokering lucrative payoffs between corrupt corporations and the individuals who threaten their ruin’.

This all changes when a potential client named Sarah — played by James — contacts Tom seeking his protection.

As such, his meticulous planning and steadfast dedication to his rules began to waver as he tries to keep her alive.
