Lindy Klim has finally opened up about the reason for her split from British property developer Adam Ellis – and why her decision to leave was ‘years in the making’.

The Balinese princess and former wife of champion swimmer Michael Klim ended things with Adam, her second husband, in October last year after six years of marriage. She did not provide a reason for their break-up at the time.

Since then, the 46-year-old has maintained a dignified silence on what led to their separation or its aftermath. But now she is ready to speak.

As she shares her story in a new episode of Chiquita Searle’s FemmeCon Podcast, Lindy tells me she now has ‘very little contact with Adam’ and they don’t yet have a co-parenting arrangement for their seven-year-old daughter, Goldie.

‘I still love Adam, but I am not in love with him anymore. He will always be Goldie’s father and I really do have a soft spot for him.

‘I wish him well in the future.’

In the podcast episode, obtained by Daily Mail Australia ahead of its release this week, Lindy also shared the difficult steps she took to escape her ‘toxic’ relationship, which had left her physically ill and isolated from the people she loved.

‘I was very hurt, and I had no idea how I was going to get on with my life,’ she said.

‘He’s been unwell for such a long time… The mental toll on me was just huge, and my whole body was falling apart. I was sick all the time,’ she added.

‘So, in a sense, it was probably more difficult to leave this relationship, my relationship with Adam, and it has probably been years coming.

‘I really wanted it to work. I really wanted to be there for him and I really wanted to fix him. That’s where I had to do a lot of work on myself… and stop walking around trying to fix people and try to fix myself instead.’

The model, who is now dating medical tech businessman Paul Mullert, admitted she didn’t realise how ‘damaging’ her relationship with Adam was for a long time, and admitted there were issues she had ignored at first.

It wasn’t until her body started showing physical and mental signs of decline, fatigue and sickness that she went to a doctor, who prescribed her with anti-anxiety drugs.

‘I really stuck it out. It was not good for many, many years,’ she continued.

‘[It] was so toxic… that over time, I didn’t even realise it was happening.’

Eventually, she found herself ‘isolated’ from her family and friends.

Lindy claimed that eventually, after Adam allegedly did something ‘unthinkable’, she was forced to pack up and leave Bali, jetting to Melbourne with her four children, Stella, 19, Rocco, 16, and Frankie, 13, whom she shares with first husband Michael, and Goldie, Adam’s daughter.

She revealed that when she left, she was in such a desperate rush that she only took one suitcase.

‘He did something that was, you know, unthinkable for me, and I just thought I need to have the support of my family and friends. And I just booked the tickets and found a house and left,’ she claimed.

She told Daily Mail Australia she only packed the essentials, which included clothes and other household necessities.

‘I left almost everything, I only took the essentials. I just brought back clothes, my coffee machine and my Globe Kitchen knives which I have had forever as I love cooking,’ she said.

‘I started from scratch, I feel like it’s cleansing. My old life was so traumatic for me I just wanted to start fresh.’

Despite the ordeal, Lindy is certain she will return to her island home someday.

‘Bali is my home, my family still live [there], it’s where I feel grounded spiritually. But I probably won’t go back for quite a while,’ she added.

‘I just need to settle into Australia and give it a little rest for a while.’

Lindy’s ex-husband Michael has been a pillar of support to her since her split from Adam. The former couple still amicably co-parent their three children and even reunited before Christmas.

‘Michael was really supportive,’ she said, adding that the kids spend every school holidays with the former Olympian and see him in Australia twice per month.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Adam Ellis for comment.

Speculation that Lindy’s second marriage of six years had ended first began in October when the mother-of-four posted a photo of herself with her four children, captioned ‘My family, my world’ – with Adam noticeably absent from the snap.

Followers also noticed that Lindy’s large citrine engagement ring was missing from her finger.

Days later, Lindy shared two striking images of a Balinese sunrise with the caption: ‘Last few hours in Bali, see you soon Melbourne.’

Lindy, who has captured the hearts of Australians for over two decades, first made her mark on the catwalks of Gucci, Chanel and Louis Vuitton at the age of 20, then in glossy editorials for fashion industry bibles Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

She married Olympian Michael in 2006. They divorced a decade later and she was soon dating Adam.

In 2018, Lindy married Adam in a lavish Tuscan ceremony.

The multi-hyphenate entrepreneur previously lived between Canggu, Australia, and Europe, but for the time being Melbourne is her home.

Her 19-year-old daughter Stella is a rising model and influencer and now has accumulated an even bigger following on TikTok than her famous mum.

The young social media star, who specialises in beauty and makeup tips, even gives her mother suggestions on how to better engage with her fans online.

‘She has taught me how to pose and hold myself in certain environments, but in terms of influencer stuff I’m definitely helping mum,’ Stella told the Herald Sun recently.

‘Stella has outgrown me,’ Lindy added.
