Lionel Messi tells Sergio Aguero that Argentina miss him from World Cup base in Qatar

‘We miss you’: Lionel Messi enjoys a heartwarming conversation with Sergio Aguero after joining his Twitch stream from Argentina’s World Cup base… as the retired striker tells his old team-mates: ‘your victories are also for me’

Lionel Messi joined Sergio Aguero’s Twitch stream live from Argentina’s World Cup base in Qatar and told his former team-mate: ‘We miss you’.

Messi and Argentina are preparing for their quarter-final showdown against Holland this weekend, with Louis van Gaal’s men standing in their way of a place in the last four.

It has been a rollercoaster ride for the South Americans, who recovered from a disastrous opening defeat against Saudi Arabia to reach the knockout stages, and Aguero says he has been enjoying watching their journey from afar.

The ex-Argentina striker was forced to retire from football last year after being diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat, meaning he can only cheer on his old team-mates from the sidelines.

Yet after being joined by Messi and other Argentina stars on his Twitch stream, Aguero stressed that he still feels like a part of the side even from a distance.

‘Your victories are also for me,’ he told Messi and Co. ‘I suffer a lot, but I really enjoy watching you play and that you are so united. I feel like I’m with you, it makes me very happy that everything’s fine.’

Messi then had some kind words for his close friend, while also paying tribute to Giovani lo Celso, who was ruled out of this year’s World Cup through injury.

‘We miss you and Gio,’ he said. ‘You two are always present’.

Aguero ended the live stream by telling his compatriots: ‘Good luck on Friday boys, whatever happens, you are phenomenons, love you.’

Prior to that heartwarming conversation, both parties were left in stitches when a member of Aguero’s crew tried to show Messi and his fellow Argentina players how to tweak their camera.

Sevilla’s Papu Gomez also joined the stream for a while and drew comparisons with David Beckham after recently shaving his hair.

Messi joked: ‘Papu aimed very high, he wanted to compare himself with Beckham.’

Aguero then chipped in by saying: ‘Papu, why don’t you get inspired by Walter Samuel’s look? In the chat, they say that Papu has [Jorge] Sampaoli’s hairstyle.’

Argentina take on Holland in Friday’s late World Cup quarter-final, with kick-off to come at 7pm.
