Lisa Wilkinson lost her mother Beryl in 2018. 

And the TV host found herself fighting back tears on The Sunday Project following a moving Mother’s Day segment featuring children who had lost their mums. 

After the piece aired, the 60-year-old became choked up, saying: ‘Wow-ee. That’s something on Mother’s Day, isn’t it?’

Her voice breaking, she added emotionally: ‘It’s funny because – oh, dear, I thought I was okay,’ before stopping. 

Her co-hosts came to the rescue, with Peter van Onselen saying: ‘I will start, Lisa. I lost my parents at a relatively young age, but I was in my 20s. 

‘And so you’ve already had them through those formative years, so those kids, you feel for them,’ he added, also becoming tearful.

Earlier on Sunday, Lisa paid tribute to her mother with a moving Instagram post. 

Alongside a photo of the pair together in years gone by, she wrote:  ‘Sending much love to everyone, like me, who for whatever reason is missing their mum today.’

She went on: ‘I chose this pic because I think being a grandma was probably her greatest joy in life. 

‘And I know I never could have made it through those tough early years as a mum myself with three kids under five, without her limitless love and patience, particularly at times when I found myself struggling with it all.’
