Lisa Wilkinson talks about Today show departing issue

It seems everyone has had an opinion on the circumstances surrounding Lisa Wilkinson’s departure from the Today show.

But on Wednesday, Lisa herself addressed the issue that has been on everyone’s mind since she quit in October.

‘You can see women have had enough,’ the 57-year-old told News.com.au.

‘Women have had enough’: Lisa Wilkinson opens up on the big issue that led to her departure from the Today show

‘The gender pay gap, domestic violence, homelessness is on a huge rise in this country, particularly for women over 50.’

The former Today show host said she believes women are beginning to feel ‘the wind behind them’ off the back of power moves, arguably like her own.

Her comments follow her sensational defection as the popular host of Today show to Network Ten.

Following her departure from Nine Network, reports suggested she left after her demands for pay parity with co-host Karl Stefanovic were not met.

The veteran journalist was reportedly fed of being paid $1.1million a year compared to Karl’s reported $2million annual salary.

Speaking out: 'Women have had enough — the gender pay gap, domestic violence, homelessness is on a huge rise in this country, particularly for women over 50,' Lisa said

Since quitting, Lisa has been enjoying some time off before going back to work on Channel Ten’s The Project in January 2018.

She told the publication that she has discovered sleep-ins after ditching the 3.30am alarm that started her day for a decade.

‘It’s heavenly, I’ve discovered I love sleep, I never had a problem sleeping and I’m just getting a lot more these days and it feels great,’ she said.

Meanwhile, her old chair beside Karl on the Today show is reportedly set to be filled by Georgie Gardner, Confidential reported on Sunday.

The publication claimed that the appointment is ‘close’ to being made public – despite the 46-year-old allegedly previously declining the role.
