Litter of adorable sheepdogs are taken in by farmer after being abandoned

When farmer Carwyn Thomas discovered six bedraggled sheepdog pups sheltering from the rain in his livestock trailer, he assumed they had escaped from another farm nearby.

So he posted a message on Facebook asking anyone with information to contact him, and sheltered the pups in a stable – where they wolfed down ten tins of dog food between them within the space of a few hours and were soon bouncing around boisterously.

He learned that one of his own workers had found them at the side of the road and had put them in the trailer for safety after they followed him into the yard.

‘But as the day progressed no one came to claim them,’ said Mr Thomas, 32. 

‘My guess is they were dumped by someone passing, there’s no other logical explanation.’

Mr Thomas, who farms 400 sheep and cattle on 150 acres in Llanerchymedd, Anglesey, had the pups, which were not microchipped, checked by a vet. Despite having fleas, they were in good health. 

He contacted North Clwyd Animal Rescue Centre, which agreed to collect the dogs and try to rehome them.

Mr Thomas joked that he was lucky his wife, Catrin, 28, a supermarket manager, was at work when he found the pups. 

‘She loves dogs and would have been keen to keep them,’ he said. ‘I don’t think our cocker spaniel Alaw would have been too happy about it either.’
