A cameraman has been violently pushed to the ground in the middle of a live-stream as violence erupted outside a church where Mark Latham gave a political speech.

The New South Wales One Nation leader spoke about religious and parental rights at the St Michaels church in Belfield, south-west Sydney on Tuesday, ahead of Saturday’s state election.

Police recommended cancelling the engagement when more than 100 Christian Lives Matter followers clashed with about 15 LGBTQ protesters on the street, but the speech went ahead.

During the chaos, a cameraman who goes by the Twitter handle Chriscoveries and live-streams demonstrations across Sydney, was shoved to the ground by black-clad Christian Lives Matter protesters as he tried to make his way through the crowd.

‘Get the f*** out of here’ a large man screams before lashing out.

He is then pushed again by another man before slamming to the ground as a swarm of men stand over him in a circle.

One of Chris’ followers provided an update stating ‘he’s ok and uploading videos from home… Thanks for your concerns’.

An LGBTQI protest group, Community Action for Rainbow Rights, claims their members were also viciously attacked by the religious mob.

‘Hundreds of violent far right thugs attacked a small peaceful speak out of LGBTI+ activists with glass bottles, rocks and their fists,’ the group wrote on Facebook.

‘Several people were punched in the face multiple times and hit with rocks and bottles as they were surrounded by a mob 30 times their size.

‘This is a disgusting and violent escalation by the anti-LGBTI+ far-right protesters.’

Mr Latham, who spoke alongside independent candidate for Liverpool, Michael Andjelkovic, initially voiced his frustration about police calling for the event to be scrapped.

‘To not give my speech, to go straight home would have allowed the transgender protesters to cancel my free speech and democratic rights as an election candidate, things that are sacred to me and have been for 35 years in running for elections, local, Federal and State,’ he posted to Twitter.

Shortly after he ugly scenes he denounced the ‘violent’ behaviour.

‘I sincerely convey my best wishes to those injured and thank the police officers involved for their work. No one should take the law into their own hands. Violence at political events is wrong,’ he said.

‘We should sort out our differences peacefully at the ballot box as we are doing in NSW this Saturday. Any other approach is unacceptable and counter-productive in a democracy.

‘Let’s be clear: I didn’t organise the event nor did my party. I was invited along with three other speakers to talk at a pre-election public meeting at the St Michael’s Belfield Catholic Church. No different to several other meetings on religious and parental rights this year.’
