Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Liverpool are working towards a new deal for Mohamed Salah to keep their Egyptian talisman at Anfield for many years to come.

Salah last agreed a new contract with Liverpool in 2018, a year after joining from Serie A giants Roma.

Liverpool had initially doubled his wages to more than £100,000 a week — but those terms were drastically improved after he scored a stunning 44 goals in his debut campaign.

The forward is one of the club’s highest earners but Liverpool will need to put together the biggest financial package in their history for one of the world’s best goalscorers, whose contract has entered its final two years.

Klopp said: ‘I am involved in pretty much everything in the club.

‘Maybe some talks happen without me, that’s possible, but apart from that I know about all the things and that’s how it always is — we don’t really speak about these kinds of things.

‘I know we changed that a little bit with Hendo (Jordan Henderson) but that doesn’t mean we will talk from now on and tell you about each little step we make in any negotiations.

‘Mo is obviously in a really, really good moment football-wise, mood-wise.

‘How he behaves from the first day he came back has been absolutely great.

‘So we’re all adults, we’re all professionals. There are talks and there are more talks and when there is a final decision, we will tell you. Until then, it is only important how the parties work together in these things.’

Salah’s numbers since he has been at Anfield have been remarkable.

After hitting the the third in last week’s 3-0 win at Norwich, the 29-year-old only needs four goals more to register a century in the Premier League.

If he achieves that in the next two fixtures against Burnley and Chelsea, he will equal Roger Hunt’s record of hitting the landmark in 148 appearances.

‘With two years left you can imagine there are talks and that is it,’ Klopp added. ‘He is hungry for goals — there is no doubt about that.’
