Liverpool are eyeing a move for Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo as the Serie A side could be forced to sell their best talent this summer.

The club posted huge debts of £250million earlier this week and takeover talks with the Friedkin Group have been delayed due to the uncertainty of the current season.

Roma currently sit outside the Champions League places and while Italy remain committed to finishing the season, they could miss out on a valuable place in Europe.

According to Football Italia, several media outlets in the country believe Roma could be forced to sell their best players to raise funds.

Attacking midfielder Zaniolo is considered their most valuable asset with the 20-year-old valued at £71million before the outbreak of coronavirus.

But that price has dropped with the financial implications of the pandemic and Il Tempo, Il Messaggero and the Corriere dello Sport all report that Liverpool are the main contenders to sign the youngster.

Zaniolo is recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and has not played since December.

Before his injury he had managed six goals and two assists in all competitions for the Serie A side.

He also has five caps for the Italian national team and scored his first senior goal in November before he was sidelined.

Lorenzo Pellegrini is another player Roma could be forced to sell with Paris Saint-Germain leading the chase for the 23-year-old.

The midfielder has a release clause of £27million and Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan are also thought to be interested.
