Lionel Messi endured a torrid evening on Tuesday night but his evening took another turn for the worse just seconds after seeing Barcelona crash out of the Champions League in embarrassing fashion.

As the youngster ran past the Argentine genius he outrageously stuck two fingers up to Messi’s face while a steward chased him after he illegally entered the field of play.

Messi looked unfazed by the incident and proceeded to walk straight off the pitch and back down into the dressing room.

Despite his vow to lift the European Cup at the start of the season, Messi’s night ended in disaster as Barca lost 4-0 to Jurgen Klopp’s sensational team at Anfield.

Barcelona’s captain had made it his mission to win ‘that trophy’ for his team last summer but he was left demoralised by the way the Reds tore them apart and he was inconsolable when he returned to the dressing room.

The usually placid Messi was then ‘involved in an ugly altercation’ with his own fans as Barcelona players travelled home from Liverpool Airport on Tuesday night.

Mundo Deportivo reported that Messi squared up to angry fans who confronted him at John Lennon Airport and asked them what their problem was.

He did not arrive at the airport with his team-mates, instead being held back at the stadium by anti-doping officials.

Messi was then accompanied to the airport by his personal security guard and manager Pepe Costa.

At the airport’s security checkpoint, a small group of fans are said to have confronted Messi and the player had to be dragged away to avoid a more serious situation.

It was also reported that a separate group of Barcelona fans applauded their hero, coming to the defence of the player despite an awful evening on the pitch.
