Roberto Firmino has labelled Sergio Ramos ‘an idiot’ for his comments following the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid.

The defender has responded aggressively to the accusation that he purposely tried to injure Mohamed Salah and deliberately elbowed goalkeeper Loris Karuis in the face.

Ramos claimed that Salah instigated the clash that led to his dislocated shoulder and that he could have played on. In a recent interview, he said: ‘I am only missing Roberto Firmino saying he got a cold because a drop of my sweat landed on him.’

Understandably, Ramos has become public enemy No 1 on Merseyside and Firmino stood up for his club by issuing his own strong response to the Spaniard’s latest headline-making comment.

Speaking ahead of Brazil’s friendly against Austria, Firmino said: ‘I prefer not to make any comments, I think he has a view because he was the champion but I thought he was an idiot for what he said but that’s okay.’

Following the 3-1 defeat in that final, Liverpool have been strongly linked with a move for Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson. The Roma shot-stopper, valued at £60million by his club, will spend the next month with Firmino at the World Cup.

And the striker happily revealed that he is trying to convince Alisson to join him at Anfield next season, saying:  ‘Sometimes I talk to him about it and have a joke with him, saying “you should come to Liverpool”.

‘His agent is sorting his future but it wouldn’t be a bad thing to have him here at Liverpool.’

Firmino also congratulated his Brazil team-mate Fred for completing his big-money move to Manchester United, although acknowledged that the transfer will soon make him a rival at domestic level.

He finished: ‘He’s is in the next room to me, he is my next rival but I congratulated him and I hope he has a lot of success playing at Manchester United.

‘Now on the pitch it’s a derby, we won’t be able to avoid playing against each other but I wish him great success.’
