Liverpool unveil plans for victory parade through the city on Sunday after Champions League triumph with tens of thousands of fans expected to salute their heroes

Liverpool’s Champions League winners will be welcomed back to the city with a victory parade on Sunday afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp and his players are set to board an open-top bus and show off their latest European trophy, with tens of thousands of supporters expected to turn out.

They won the competition for the sixth time in their history with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Madrid on Saturday night.

And after their flight back from Spain, they will climb aboard the bus for the parade, which culminates on the city’s waterfront.

Liverpool City Council revealed the route late on Saturday night with the parade starting at 4pm at Allerton Maze.

The bus will then travel north on Queens Drive towards the Fiveways roundabout and Rocket flyover.

From there, it will journey along Queens Drive, Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street and The Strand before finishing at Blundell Street.

The Mersey River Festival and Bordeaux Wine Festival are also taking place on the Waterfront his weekend.

A spokesman for Merseyside Police said they expected ‘tens of thousands of people’ to turn out for the Homecoming Parade.

The Council advised fans to line the full length of the route and to be patient as it can’t be predicted how long it’ll take for the bus to travel along.

At least 50,000 Liverpool fans were in Madrid for the final, which was staged at Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

They took a second-minute lead from the penalty spot through Mohamed Salah after Moussa Sissoko was adjudged to have handled Sadio Mane’s cross.

And substitute Divock Origi made sure of the victory three minutes from time after goalkeeper Alisson had made several key saves to keep Tottenham at bay.
