Logies 2019: Tom Gleeson in trouble with his wife after boozy speech

Tom Gleeson reveals what his stony-faced wife Ellie Parker REALLY thought of his boozy, eight-minute Gold Logie acceptance speech

Tom Gleeson divided the room with his rambling, eight-minute acceptance speech on Sunday night, after controversially winning the Gold Logie.

And one audience member who was certainly not impressed by the Hard Quiz host’s performance was his own wife Ellie Parker.

Footage from the ceremony showed her looking rather stony faced in the crowd, perhaps wary of the disapproving eyes around her.

Addressing the ‘look’ his wife was giving him, Tom told the Today show on Monday that she was indeed upset by his speech.

He explained: ‘I was talking to my wife after the speech, and she said there was a great moment right in the middle when [I] said that there is one thing that the Logies can stand for and that is just taking the p**s, enjoying yourself and everyone should lighten up.

‘She said, “You really had the room there, and it would have been great if you finished then”. She was right, I should have finished then!’

Today host Deborah Knight asked if Tom was ‘in a bit of trouble’ at home for not wrapping up his speech while he had the audience on his side.

The 45-year-old comedian replied: ‘Yeah, I think if I never say the word “Logie” in our house again she will be very happy! I think she’s over it.’

Ellie was correct in her assessment of Tom’s speech, as things went downhill towards the end when he defended his ‘dirty’ campaign methods.

He mocked the candidates who had ‘sincerely’ campaigned for the Gold Logie, and said his victory was a win for ‘taking the p**s’ and ‘not giving a s**t’.

Tom even joked that the teleprompter was telling him to ‘wrap up’, before he continued speaking for another 90 seconds.

He seemed to be veering into serious territory when he spoke about doing something ‘worthy’ with the award, before telling people to ‘donate to Ticketmaster’ by buying tickets to his stand-up shows.
