London Marathon LIVE: Event set to be hottest on record

Today’s London Marathon is likely to be the hottest on record despite overnight thunderstorms in the capital bringing an end to the heatwave.

The current record for the marathon is 22.7C (72.8F) in 1996 but Met Office spokesman Grahame Madge said temperatures could reach 23C (73.4F).

Runners were warned ‘it’ll feel even hotter than that with warmth coming up from the tarmac and other competitors’.

But that didn’t stop thousands of competitors wearing fancy dress while they dashed through the streets.
