London schoolboy was ‘tackled by policeman through window’

The moment a 15-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after slamming into a doorway when a police officer allegedly tackled him off his bike was caught on CCTV.

Terrell Decosta Jones-Burton was knocked unconscious after allegedly being charged as he cycled past a chicken shop near his home in Bermondsey, south-east London.

Police were called after a woman claimed her mobile phone had been stolen and gave a description that matched the teenager.

His mother, Shereen Jones, posted pictures of him lying in King’s College Hospital with a bloodied face and heavily swollen mouth – the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) are now investigating.

The teenager’s family also say he had a seizure in the ambulance, causing bleeding on the brain, in addition to broken teeth, a broken jawbone.

Video cameras from the shop show him come to a shuddering halt crashing into the hinges of the doorway, with an officer in close pursuit.

Ms Jones said her son had a strict 9.30pm curfew, which she had called to remind him of moments before the stop, and that he had never been on the wrong side of the law before.

‘I get in the ambulance and all I can see is his face just shattered, just completely disfigured,’ she told the Evening Standard.

‘He looked like a dead person, that’s how bad he looked. I almost didn’t recognise him. I burst into tears.’

Workers at other takeaways on the same road described heavy-handed policing by the officers involved.

Bogdan Sadowski, who works in a local curry house, told the Standard: ‘The officer was very aggressive.

‘The boy’s head slammed into the door and he was out cold. I thought he was dead.’

The Met has already faced serious uproar after two young, black men died after alleged police brutality.

Edson Da Costa, 25, died in June six days after he was stopped in a drugs search in Beckton, while 20-year-old Rashan Charles was restrained on a Dalston shop floor, and also later died.

An IPCC spokesman said: ‘The Met made a mandatory referral to the IPCC which is now investigating the incident. IPCC investigators were deployed to the scene and attended post incident procedures.’
