Lonely Paul Hogan gets a new lease on life as his granddaughter moves to LA

Paul Hogan has reportedly set aside plans to return to Australia after his favourite grandchild announced she was moving to Los Angeles.

The 83-year-old actor’s granddaughter Mylee Hogan will soon be relocating from Sydney to California after being promoted to 7News’ U.S. correspondent.

Mylee was previously a roving reporter for the network and fill-in host for Sunrise.

She is said to be looking forward to a ‘new start’ in LA after her recent controversy when she made an off-colour joke about Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath.

The fact her grandfather lives in Venice Beach means she will have family in the area, and she hopes to visit him frequently.

‘After the drama around the now infamous Glenn McGrath joke that went horribly wrong, Mylee wants to start afresh in the U.S., especially as her grandad is there,’ a source told Woman’s Day.

‘Having Mylee in his house is going to really give Paul a reason to live his best life and she wants to spend as much time with him as she can,’ they added.

Paul revealed last year he was desperate to spend his final years in Australia after a debilitating condition ravaged his health and left him too weak to carry out basic tasks on his own.

The Crocodile Dundee star has struggled with muscle wastage and dramatic weight loss after being diagnosed with retroperitoneal fibrosis, a disorder in which inflammation and extensive scar tissue occurs in the abdominal cavity.

Discussing his condition with A Current Affair host Tracy Grimshaw – her last interview before she left Nine’s flagship program after 17 years – Paul revealed the benign growth has wrapped around the abdominal aorta and pressed on his kidney.

And he admitted the devastating impact on his health had left him pining to leave the $3.5million Venice Beach home he shares with son Chance, 24, and return to the relative tranquility of his home country.

Despite being desperate to return home to Australia as his health declines, Paul said he couldn’t leave his son Chance – his only child with ex-wife and former Crocodile Dundee co-star Linda Kozlowski – alone in California.

‘I’m not in the place I’m meant to be, but I’m not allowed to complain about anything,’ he said.

‘I’ve had such a gifted life. I’ve had so many wonderful things happen to me without deserving them so I shouldn’t complain but, yeah, ideally I’d rather be back in Sydney because I miss the rest of my family there.’

Paul revealed a month earlier he’d been ‘homesick for years’ after the Venice Beach neighbourhood surrounding his home became a magnet for vagrants.

‘I miss the people, the ambience – and there’s something you just can’t put your finger on, but there’s something about Australia that is friendlier and more laid-back,’ he told The Daily Telegraph.

‘It never takes itself seriously – there’s no arrogance like there is in other places.’

In an interview with Sunrise in 2021, Hogan said he wanted to leave his life in America behind.

  What Is Retroperitoneal Fibrosis?

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is a disorder in which inflammation and extensive scar tissue (fibrosis) occur in the back of the abdominal cavity, behind the membrane that surrounds the organs of the digestive system (the peritoneum).

Retroperitoneal fibrosis can occur at any age but appears most frequently between the ages of 40 and 60.

Symptoms include lower back pain, kidney failure, hypertension and deep vein thrombosis. *

‘I am desperately homesick,’ he said. ‘I’m living in LA County, which is 10 million people and half of them have got Covid. So am I homesick? You bet your life.’

Paul moved to Los Angeles in 2005 with his then-love interest and former co-star Linda Kozlowski, whom he met on the set of Crocodile Dundee.

He left his first wife Noelene to pursue a love affair with the much younger Linda, now 64, and they wed in 1990.

In 2014, she filed for divorce but they are said to still be on good terms and live in the same neighborhood while co-parenting their son.
