Long weekend horror as two women and an unborn baby are killed in shocking head-on crash 

A horror head-on collision has killed two women and a set of unborn twins and left two men in a critical condition, marking a tragic beginning to the October long weekend.

The 17-year-old female driver and her 23-year-old rear passenger, who was heavily pregnant with twins, died at the scene after their hatchback collided with a car travelling north on a New South Wales highway. 

The Nissan was travelling north on Northern Road in Sydney’s west when it collided with a Mazda travelling in the opposite direction at 7.40pm on Friday. 

Emergency services attempted to revive the driver and her rear passenger but both women and the unborn babies died at the scene.

The 25-year-old male front passenger, was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The sole occupant of the Mazda was trapped for a short time and moved to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition with leg injuries, he is also under police guard. 

Both the green and black hatchbacks were beyond recognition when police and paramedics arrived at the horror scene.

Debris from the crash was strewn across both lanes of the major motorway in Orchid Hills. 

Two other vehicles were hit in the crash but the occupants in each car came out unscathed. 

A crime scene has been established on the stretch of highway and an investigation is underway to what caused the accident. 

Police are calling for any witness’ to the accident to step forward.
