Looking good up front: Venezuelan presenters strip naked to support their football team in the Copa America

  • Presenters praised ‘gladiators’ of their national team while giving support
  • All work for Desnudando la Noticia – which means ‘Stripping the News’
  • Channel claims to be empowering women while reading the news naked

An all-female ‘news’ team in Venezuela have decided to show their support for the national football team in this year’s Copa America tournament – by stripping completely naked.

Eight presenters from Desnudando la Noticia – which translates as ‘Stripping the News’ – decided to bare all as an encouragement to the ‘gladiators’ of football, asking other women to join them.

The team, which consists largely of models and beauty contestants, say their presenting style is aimed at ’empowering women’ and getting rid of the taboo around nudity.

One presenter and model, Yuvi Pallares, has previously made headlines after taking her clothes off while reporting on a sex scandal involving Christiano Ronaldo.

In a message to football fans in South America, the team say that for every stage of the contest the Venezuelan team get through, they will post more nude content on their webpage.

Despite finishing fourth in last year’s Copa America, Venezuela are underdogs going into this year’s contest, facing an uphill battle to get out of a group which includes Brazil, Colombia, and Peru.

Hosts Chile will kick the tournament off against Ecuador two days from now, and Venezuela will play their first game against Colombia on Sunday.

Uruguay are the defending champions but may struggle to win this year’s contest as star-man Luis Suarez is still serving an international football ban for biting during the World Cup.

Lionel Messi’s Argentina are widely expected to win the tournament after the centre forward has put on a blistering display of form in both the Champions League and La Liga.

However they could face stiff competition from a new-look Brazil side, hoping to put the shame of losing 7-1 to Germany at their own World Cup firmly behind them.

Desnudando la Noticia is a subscription ‘news’ website, which claims to be fighting for female liberation by encouraging its presenters to strip off in the middle of their reports.

Covering topics from technology to sport and ‘world sex worker day’, the heavily made-up presenters read the news from a studio in revealing dresses, before casually taking them off midway through speaking.

On their Facebook page they describe their audience as ‘adolescent and adult males’, adding that each day their presenters upload a 10-20 minute segment to their website.

Started during the World Cup last year, the site now boasts ‘ten new reporters, better scenes and more entertaining sections’.
