‘You start going into cold sweats and the next thing you know you pass out. I nearly got to that stage. Ann was shocked by it all like I was. I understand why she felt I was being a bit of a hypochondriac.

‘In fact that morning Ann and I went out on the tandem. We rode 25 miles on the tandem.’

The Apprentice star, 72, underwent heart surgery in the US after one of his arteries narrowed, which can lead to what’s known as a widowmaker heart attack.

The procedure involved putting a stent inside the star to help blood flow.

He previously claimed the issue had arisen during a routine heart check and that he was in good health.

But speaking on the ITV show, Sir Alan revealed that he had been suffering pain in his chest, leading him to seek out specialist help along with his wife of 51 years, Ann.

‘Ann (wife) went with me to this place where I had a scan’, he explained.

‘I have got a friend who owns a scanning clinic and she (wife) came with me and she said ‘What are we doing wasting our bleeding time here? You are a bloody hypochondriac. There is nothing wrong with you. You have got a little tweak over there and a little pain. There is nothing wrong. We are standing here wasting blooming time.’

‘I said ‘Don’t worry. I just want to check it out.’ ‘The doctor who is reading the scans and the pair of us nearly passed out. Because he said to me, ‘you better go straight to A&E’.’ Speaking about his net worth, he said he could easily ‘write a check for £100m.’ But despite his impressive business accolades, when quizzed about how much a pint of milk is, he responded: ’15p’.

Discussing his use of social media, which got him in trouble over a seemingly racist tweet about the Senegal football team, he said: ‘Well it sometimes gets me into trouble as you know. I do like a little joke now and again.’
