  • The German shot-stopper remains under contract at Liverpool until next summer

Loris Karius made another dreadful error during Besiktas’ Europa League defeat by Slovan Bratislava.

The goalkeeper has an unfortunate habit of making match-defining mistakes, most notably in Liverpool’s 2018 Champions League final loss to Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old – who is still under contract at Liverpool – has now made a comical blunder at Besiktas, to whom he is on loan until June 2020.

Karius gifted Slovan Bratislav an opening goal on 14 minutes after misjudging a long punt upfield.

The ‘keeper raced out of his area in an attempt to clear the danger but instead missed a header and wiped out his nearest team-mate.

Andraz Sporar was only too grateful to roll the ball into an empty net at Narodnny Futbalovy Stadion.

Football fans were quick to criticise the shot-stopper on social media, and some were more sympathetic than others.

One person tweeted: ‘Another season, another Loris Karius howler. Genuinely feel bad for the guy.’

Another person wrote: ‘That’s classic even by Karius’ standards.’

One fan even suggested the German should ‘give up on football football honestly’.

Goalkeepers are often remembered by their mistakes rather than their great saves, and Karius will need to show mental strength and determination if he is to bounce back from this latest clanger.
