Los Angeles FC are close to agreeing to a deal to sign AC Milan striker and France’s all-time leading international goal scorer, Olivier Giroud.

Giroud, aged 37, would join the team after this summer’s Euros on a deal that is guaranteed to run through the 2025 MLS season.

He currently has 12 goals and eight assists in over 1,850 league minutes for AC Milan this season.

The deal, first reported by The Athletic’s Tom Bogert, came as LAFC owned the discovery rights to the French star – meaning they had priority to sign him ahead of any other club in Major League Soccer.

Giroud would join an LAFC team with a potent attack consisting of reigning MLS golden boot holder Denis Bouanga and Uruguay international Cristian Olivera.

LAFC has been running without a true striker to start the season – with Mateusz Bogusz, who traditionally plays at central midfield, operating as a false nine.

But LAFC has been surviving without a scoring threat up top – grabbing seven points in five matches to start the year.

Giroud is probably best known for his time with London-based club Arsenal – where he scored 105 goals in 253 appearances.

From there, he swapped London clubs – moving to Chelsea in the 2017-18 season.

THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY. MORE TO FOLLOW.
