A refugee family forced to flee their war-torn country for Australia have won a $3million beachside home plus $1million in cash. 

Aristide Nininahazwe, his partner Esther Mboneye and their three-year-old daughter Tiffany broke down in tears as they were handed the keys to the property at Beck Street at Henley Beach, Adelaide.

‘We’ve been working hard for us to have a better life, because we used to move from one country to another, and it was war after war,’ Ms Mboneye told Nine News.

Mr Ninihanze and Ms Mboneye are from Burundi, in East Africa, but fled their home country to escape the civil war. 

The pair moved to South Australia and took up roles in the healthcare industry.

They were one of 200,000 entrants to buy a ticket in the The Hospital Research Foundation Home Lottery.

The luxury home comprises of four bedrooms, an open-plan kitchen, resort-style pool, games room and a built-in barbecue.

The master bedroom is the envy of the house and consists of a make-up station, walk-in wardrobe, ensuite and skylights. 

Mr Nininahazwe and Ms Mboneye will not have to spend a dollar on furniture with the house coming fully furnished including state-of-the-art appliances and a billiard table.

‘I have no way to express this kind of feeling,’ Mr Nininahazwe told Sunrise.

‘It was just mind-blowing. One of the causes that everyone wishes to wake up to.’ 

The competition offered $7.5million in prizes altogether including two $500,000 cash giveaways and a 2022 Mercedes Benz GLB 200.

The Hospital Research Foundation Group describes its mission to ‘fight for the health and wellbeing of our community’.

‘We’re here from birth, supporting projects in pregnancy health, ultrasound training, improving IVF success rates, equipment for newborns and more,’ its website reads.

‘We’re here at end of life, helping deliver high-quality care within palliative care, aged care, and much-loved pet, art and music therapy.’
