Lotto win couple robbed at knifepoint two weeks later

A couple who won £100,000 on the lottery were terrorised in their own home by knife-wielding robbers just days after they announced their win.

Lee Davies and Carryann Copestick scooped the six-figure windfall on a scratchcard and were photographed celebrating at Wolverhampton Wanderers’ football ground last month.

But on Monday this week a gang of armed men burst into their home at night and threatened the couple with a metal bar before making off with more than £12,000 worth of belongings.

The joy of Lee Davies and Carryanne Copestick at winning £100,000 on the lottery turned to pain when armed men burst into the home and stole jewellery and iPhones

Mr Davies, 27, said he was only thankful that the raiders didn’t disturb his children; aged nine, four and eight months, who would have been ‘traumatised for life’.

He said  ‘After we won we were living the dream. We had invested in a house and planned for our wedding and went out and spent some money on clothes and jewellery from The Jewellery Quarter.

‘Then on Monday night we were both asleep in bed and these men dressed in black with balaclavas, knives and bars came in the room, we were fearing for our lives.

He added: ‘They shouted: “Where is the money? Where is the gold?” Then the one holding a bar went up to Carryann and told her to get out of bed.

‘The gold was already upstairs in the drawer by the side of the bed.

‘They took off pretty quickly and we came down and called the police – we were just so lucky they didn’t wake the children. Something like this would have traumatised them for life.’

The gang made off with £11,000 worth of gold, including a necklace worth £4,000, a bracelet worth £900 and eight rings, and two iPhones worth £1,500.

The couple had been overjoyed at winning the amount and were organising a dream wedding and the purchase of a house at the time of the break-in.

Speaking when the couple went public with their win at Wolves’ Molineux football ground, shipping clerk Mr Davies told how he got the scratchcard after picking up his wages.

After realising his luck, he went home and told his fiancee: ‘We can have the wedding of our dreams now’.

He added: ‘She didn’t believe me at first, even when I actually showed her the ticket she thought it was a fake or something like that.’

They planned to have their first trip abroad as a family and a honeymoon in southern Spain.

Mr Davies added: 'We were just so lucky they didn't wake the children. Something like this would have traumatised them for life.'

Now the couple they say they are scared of what could happen next and are worried about the future.

West Midlands Police say they are investigating the robbery and have urged anyone with any information to get in touch.

A police spokesman said: ‘An investigation is under way. Anyone with information should call 101 and quote the crime reference number 20WV/215504H/17″
