Love Island reject Charlie claims host Sophie Monk says ‘few lines and disappears’

There’s been much discussion surrounding Sophie Monk’s apparent lack of screen time on Love Island Australia.

And following Charlie Taylor’s eviction on Sunday, the rugby player has revealed he barely saw the host during his time in the Spanish villa.

He told Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa on Monday: ‘Mate, I’ve seen her twice in the last eight to nine days – in the first and last episode, I saw her.’

Amid rumours Sophie is earning ‘$1 million’ for the role, fans have questioned her noticeable absence from the show over the past week.

Nova host Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald asked the show’s first evicted contestant: ‘Were you flirting(with Sophie), Charlie?’

‘Man, not really to be honest… ,’ he said with a hint of disappointment, after previously revealing to Daily Mail Australia he fancied Sophie.

‘She does her bit, she had like 30 seconds where she says a few lines and she disappears and I don’t know where she goes off,’ Charlie said.

After fans questioned her noticeable absence, the former Bachelorette appeared to break her silence on the matter via a social media post on Saturday.

The 38-year-old confirmed when she would in fact appear on the series to her 495k Instagram followers.

‘I’m on @LoveIslandAU at least every Sunday for the worst part. Someone’s out,’ she wrote in a green front that matched her off-the-shoulder frock.

Last week, Sophie only interacted with the stars onscreen during Sunday’s premiere episode, returning for a brief appearance of less than 60 seconds later in the week.

For this Sunday’s episode she reappeared for the recouping ceremony at the end of the show, and walked away directly after delivering the news of who was evicted.

Defending her lack of screen time last Thursday, a Channel Nine spokesperson told News Corp: ‘The format of this multi-platform series revolves around our islanders.’

‘As host, Sophie’s appearance in the villa means the islanders know something big is about to happen so comes in whenever a major shake-up is made,’ they added.

Nine also said the show was simply following the format of the UK original.

It comes after Sophie revealed that she ‘wouldn’t have [had] the balls’ to be a contestant on Love Island when she was in her twenties.

‘I didn’t have the balls back then – I was really shy!’ Sophie told Who on Thursday

She added: ‘And I never went out nightclubbing. If you look back at me in interviews from that time I had the highest voice and I was such a geek.’

The Love Island contestants have been hitting the headlines ever since the raunchy dating show premiered on Sunday night.

Cassidy and Grant set tongues wagging when they became the first couple to get hot and heavy under the covers.

Elsewhere, a game of spin the bottle revealed that Kim had once had sex in a Myer changing room and that Natasha had slept with Justin Bieber.
