Earlier in the episode, Liberty awakes after sleeping on the day bed with Kaz Kamwi, to a text which reads: ‘Liberty and Jake. Please get ready to leave the villa for your final date. #makeorbreak.’

The former Nando’s waitress tells Jake about the text and the pair ponder whether they should head out of the villa for the rare experience.

Jake says: ‘I think it would be silly not to go on a date. It’s entirely up to you.’

Making the most of their final moments together, the pair decide to venture out and take to the seas on a luxurious boat.

Trying to remain positive, Jake says: ‘Here we are then,’ as they soak up the sights from the yacht deck.

The Weston-Super-Mare native is clad in an unbuttoned blue shirt, revealing his chiselled abs, and white shorts.

Meanwhile Liberty looks effortlessly stunning in a chic white swimsuit and lace beach trousers.

However, the pair look lost on board the yacht they once dreamed of being the perfect end to their Love Island journey.

‘Our perfect date we’ve always spoken about. You look beautiful today,’ Jake comments, to which Liberty responds: ‘Thank you. You look nice as well. How do you feel?’

Jake says: ‘It’s a tricky one really. I didn’t think I’d be coming on a date with the one I thought was The One.’

Unsure of what went wrong, Liberty admits: ‘I don’t know what happened along the way but the spark just faded.’

‘On my behalf I felt the affection died out,’ he says, acknowledging their connection started to dwindle. ‘That’s a big thing for me and that’s nothing against you as a person.’

Sharing her honest feelings, Liberty says: ‘I’m not going to lie – I did fall in love with you. And at one point I thought I had found The One, but once the honeymoon passes you start seeing the cracks.’

After the pair’s heart-wrenching conversation on the picturesque boat, they head back to the villa to break the news to their fellow Islanders.

A downhearted Liberty says: ‘Do you all want to gather around the fire pit?’ The Islanders gather around, ready to hear what the former couple have to say.

A source told MailOnline: ‘It was a really tough decision for the couple to make, but it felt like the right thing to do.

‘They’d given it their all on camera and wanted to let their friends in other couples have a chance at winning.

‘Saying goodbye was emotional for all the Islanders, as they’ve become so close, like family, but it won’t be long before they’re all reunited.

‘It’s not 100 per cent over for Jake and Liberty, there are still a lot of feelings involved, so who knows what will happen in the future.’

Liberty’s mum is already in Mallorca, after flying to the villa to film the episode where the Islanders meet the parents so, she has the necessary support around her.

A Love Island spokesperson said: ‘We won’t be commenting on speculation around tonight’s episode. All will be revealed later.’

On Thursday, Liberty called time on her romance with Jake, four weeks after they made their relationship official.

While the couple ended amicably, Liberty was devastated, telling Faye Winter: ‘I’ve just got to be true to myself and I can’t do this.

‘It’s nothing against Jake and it’s nothing against me but I can just tell that I’m giving him the ick over little things like being messy and I would rather walk out being me.

‘If I’m going someone 100 per cent energy and I’m not getting it in return then I’d rather walk out here Faye with my head held high knowing I stayed true to myself the whole way through.

‘Even though I didn’t find love, I found self-love and I wouldn’t change myself for anyone, and I’m not saying Jake isn’t a genuine guy but he’s just not right for me.’

A day before setting sail, Liberty accused Jake of being ‘nasty’ after he said ‘it’s all about you’ while they took photos together.

Cracks in their relationship started to show after Liberty discovered Jake wasn’t sexually attracted to her when they first met, causing her to feel insecure.

Jake’s intentions were questioned by many of the female cast after footage of him attempting to convince the boys to betray their partners in Casa Amor was aired.

He asked Liberty to be his girlfriend midway through the series, giving her a magnetic bracelet as a promise of his affections, which she has since removed.

Faye accused Jake of copying Kem Cetinay from the 2017 series, when he used the same gesture to make his relationship with Amber Davies official.

The girls also warned Liberty against believing Jake after he finally admitted to being in love with her, with Chloe Burrows alleging he only made the declaration to save face.

Liberty and Jake’s sudden departure from the villa leaves couples Millie and Liam, Faye and Teddy, Kaz and Tyler, and Chloe and Toby in Monday’s final, with the £50,000 cash prize still up for grabs.

Love Island returns tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and is also available to watch on ITV Hub. Episodes are also available the following morning on BritBox
